Hello my name is Shelly, I have been lurking on these boards for over a week now. I have my surgery date July 2nd. I have struggled since I was 17 with my weight. I have tried every diet known to man kind. with no weight loss and if there was any it was gained back with a more lbs added. I have been trying to get this surgery for years. But B/C B/S of Kansas does not cover any weight loss surgery. I finally got on the insurance at work and they do cover it. I am so happy to have my surgery date but yet very nervous about it as well. These forums have been helping me answer my concerns. :)

Welcome Shelly! I did a lot of reading on this site just like you did. Everyone is very supportive, so don't be afraid to post questions.

The best thing I can tell you is, I am very happy that I got the band (surgery date was May 6th 2013) and I think you will be too!

Good luck and God bless!

Welcome to the forum. good luck with your weight loss journey. I have never for a moment, regretted this decision..and it was not like I wanted to do this....I had no choice as I was out of options and could not seem to keep my eating under control. With the band, I can control my portions and the fact that I don't feel ravenous all the time, lets me make good food choices.

Just the other day, I overdid it just a little bit at a work lunch and while I was not sick, I was uncomfortably full. When I thought about how much I ate, it was still a fraction of what I would have eaten pre-band but even so, the amount of food one eats now is so much less than before that you have to remember sometimes not to 'overeat' in the banded sense of the word..and not the rest of the world's idea of overeating.

Hi Shelly. My surgery is July 1. We are on our way! Very excited and nervous. Mostly ready to start really living my life. Thankful my insurance covers it. Want to be a good example for my kiddos.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
