Hi, I was banded June 7 (last Friday) and yesterday had to have an emergency defill of the 3cc primer that was put in during surgery.

Doctor said this happens to 5% of his patients and that I couldn't tolerate it and my insides were probably inflamed and swollen. That day I had woken up and after my Breakfast drink I felt that "stuck" feeling and couldn't even take in tiny sips of Water after that. I even started to vomit foam!

Soon enough I couldn't breath and my doc told me to meet him at emerg.

Some people have said maybe I'll be one of those people that don't need a lot of fills?

Although I'm SO happy to be feeling better, I'm bummed that I "lost" the 3cc.

Anyone else experience this? Any comments to share?

I had to have 1 cc removed 2 days after surgery. My doc just said some people are more sensitive than others. I wouldn't worry about it to much. He put some extra back in at my first fill to make up for what he took out. You've just got to take time to heal. I can relate to being discouraged but I lost 22 pounds by the time I had my first fill so its still helping you out. Congrats on getting banded.

My Dr does not put any fill in during surgery. I was thankful for that, b/c any surgery I have ever had, I had more swelling than usually expected. Dr once said "they could write a book about your swelling". I would have had trouble like you, glad I didn't.

I'd just be glad that you could have Fluid removed. I've heard of ppl being so swollen without Fluid, that they had to go back in and unbuckle the band.

You'll get small fills, as you need them. IMO, the way they should be given. Fills, unfills, wouldn't want to do that.

Slow and easy for me.

Good luck on your journey!

Don't be bummed about the unfill. You certainly seemed to have needed it. Focus on healing and then get fills as needed. Good luck!

Thanks for your support bryanthebigguy. How did it feel after your first fill?

Oh Wow! I have never heard of that! Doesn't that mean they have to remove it entirely??

I was banded 5/21 and although I never vomited, I had major dry heaves so 2 days post op my surgeon removed the 3cc he put in during surgery, said it was due to inflammation and swelling. I go for my first fill Thursday and I think I'm ready for it because I seem to be hungry after eating only 1/2 cup meals.

No, It was a husband and wife on here, who had it done at the same time. He did well and she was in bad shape. They unfilled her and she was still having problems, so they went in an unbuckled the band and waited for swelling to go down and then rebuckled it empty.

I haven't seen them on here for a while, but the last time I heard, they were both fine.

It was a lot different during the fill. I had to set up while he put the Fluid in and had me sip on Water until it went down smoothly. But about an hour later I could not tell that anything had been added. But this was just my first one. I go back on Monday for my second fill.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
