Week 2 - Thicker Liquids question

Recommended Posts

Today marks the beginning of my 2nd week post-op. I'm allowed to have thicker Soups as long as there's no chunks. Well I'm reading over the plan as I run the Campbell's Tomato Soup through a strainer and I realize that it says soups but then in parenthesis it says (water, not milk!). I'm so confused. I'm going to call the doctor (they're at lunch right now, grrr) but I just wanted to ask - the Soup contains cream which is milk. I assume most thicker soups do too. Unless there's other choices I'm not aware of? What in the world can I eat then?

I used Campbell Soups for during my 2 week post op. I used fat free milk in my soups. My surgeon reccommend me to use milk because of the protien. I also added fat free plain greek yogurt to the Soup for addictional protien. I hope this helps.

Same for me... Full liquids included creamy soups; Campbell's cream of potato, mushroom, etc. As long as I strained out the solids.

I love Campbell's creamy Tomato, but I was told to avoid tomato post-op because of the acid. Greek yogurt wasn't allowed at that point, but frozen yogurt was. I think because the frozen yogurt melts to a watery consistency.

Thanks guys! Unfortunately my doctor wants Soups with NO milk or dairy of any kind. However, I have found some good soups. Thanks!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
