Port area ache

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I haven't had a fill, and haven't been doing alot of physical activity like scrunches, (just walking) but have noticed an ache in the area where my port is. I didn't really have much of this immediately after surgery and am now 4 wks out. It is not a sharp pain, kind of more like a muscle ache, but it makes me wonder if I've unattached it in some way? I go in for my first fill in a couple of weeks so I know I'll have the doc check then, but just wondered if I should feel concern.

Thanks for the help!

sam

Sam,

I'm in the same type pain you are in. Mine started this weekend. It's like a little stabbing pain if I turn the wrong way, get up too fast, or sleep in a funny position. Tomorrow will be a month since I had surgery and I'm getting my first fill in a couple of weeks. I haven't worried too much about the pain because I've read so much on here about others having the same type. But I'll definitely ask when I see the doctor.

I'm having the same pain, I'm two months out. In fact, 'm sitting with a heating pad on it now. Mine is a ache that is uncomfortable. I was planting flowers yesterday.

Thanks Audra and Leener.

That makes me feel a little better. Well not better. lol. but better that I'm not in this boat by myself!

Thanks again,

sam

Me, too. I went to the gym and spent WAY too long on the bike and then did the weights including two machines where you lay on your stomach and also the crunch machine. I was just sitting here touching my stomach when I saw this post... do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do (this is supposed to be the twighlight zone song) :-). It does feel kind of bruised and aches a little. I'm 4 mos post op.

I had my band 3 weeks ago and I have had a lot of discomfort from the port but just this week I got like a muscle ache in my lower abdomen a couple of inches below the port, I put a heating pad on it and it has almost subsided.

What I'd like to know is if this is going to happen every time I try to do anything? I was only planting flowers.

That's funny, Kim. When I saw your do do do do, I immediately thought JAWS. Not sure why? lol....Anyway, I guess this is normal, although, I would have understood it more if I was actually doing some ab work.

I think I need to try the heating pad, I just have never taken it out, even after surgery. I'm pretty stuborn!

Maybe it'll be like arthritis, and we'll be able to predict a change in the weather every time our ports hurt we'll say, "feels like rain coming on." lol

Hey guys-

My port has been sore since insertion. I just saw the dr yesterday and asked about it. They said because it is sewn into the muscle if you pull it anytime in say the next 6 months it's going to be sore - he suggested a heat pad and a day of rest after it starts to hurt. He promised it would get better. Let's hope so. I knew when I came out of surgery exactly where my port was based on pain and it's been my only sore part ever since.

As the muscle that the port is adhered to heals, you can expect to feel discomfort. Any activity beyond the "usual" will strain the muscle a little and cause some discomfort. My surgeon told me this is a normal event but to not limit my activity beyond the first 6 weeks post-op. He said it's good to walk, bend, exercise, etc. to strengthen the abdominal muscles and lessen the chances of developing adhesions. I planted flowers the past 3 days for hours and my entire body is SORE.

Ah okay. SO if everyone is experiencing this it sets my mind at ease. In fact, i was going to see the doctor tomorrow about it.

Man does my port hurt. Really bad. It's okay when I wake up and gets worse as the day wears on.

I have no burning, redness, pus or fever. I wonder what is going on?

I'm 8 weeks post op and my port pain has virtually gone now. I say this but I haven't tried swimming yet - I'm trying to figure out how to keep the chlorine from leeching the color out of hair (just went from bleachy to auburn which is closer to my natural color. But I'm rambling.)

My port hurt a lot of the time until about a week ago when it just stopped. If I sit leaning forward for too long wearing jeans it will give a little twinge but nothing like before. I'm taking this as a good sign that the pain will eventually disappear altogether.

In answer to your original query, I think it's normal and nothing to worry about - unless it gets red or hot or oozy.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
