Getting nervous, doctors apt is coming also have questions for you Banded ladies

Recommended Posts

Omg I'm so excited and nervous for my doctors appointment on the 22nd. Been eating super healthy the past 3wks drinking tones of Water eating fruit an veggies Ect with not weight loss nor gain :/ hopping my doc apt will go perfect and everything will fall into place.

Also have questions about lose skin, what's the best way to make sure lose skin doesn't happen. And if it does happen do insurances cover tummy tucks for lose skin caused by weight loss surgeries?

Please tell me your story the good and the bad I wanna know everything.

The thing about loose skin is, it's mostly out of your control. Exercise definitely can help but really it all boils down to genetics, skin elasticity, how much weight you have to lose, and age. It's unfortunate but some people are just going to have loose skin no matter what they do to try avoid it.

Speaking from personal experience, I've had TONS of loose skin. I've lost over 200 pounds and seriously look like a Shar Pei naked. However, I will say this, I'll take the loose skin over the fat any day. I can hide the skin under clothes and look good- there was no hiding 200 pounds of fat.

Btw, I am currently recovering from a surgery that was hernia repair/tummy tuck/skin removal combo. My surgery was about 2 weeks ago. It's a rough recovery but I think worth it, my tummy looks drastically different but amazing. If you want a look, I posted a thread about it here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/169905-tummy-tuck-before-after-pics/

Do what you can to reduce excess skin- drink lots of Water, exercise, don't smoke, and use a good firming lotion. But even if you do end up with excess skin? It can be removed with surgery and even if you opt not to have surgery it's so much better than fat.

Best wishes!

Oh wow 200lbs that's amazing. Go you(: I'm hoping if I get approved (if I don't ill try till I do) I wanna lose at least 65lbs which is weight from ny pregnancy that I couldbt lose that's my first goal, then 100lbs then the most I wanna lost it 120lbs which would make me weight 143lbs but if I can't reach that ill be perfectly fine with losing up to 100lbs its my main gold. And I agree completely with taking lose skin over body fat any day, definitely easier to hide lol. And did you pay for your Tummy Tuck or did your insurance pay for it. And how can you get insurance to pay for it.

Insurance paid for it because it was medically necessary. Normally they only pay for the skin removal after 100 pounds or more weight loss but the tummy tuck was mostly covered too because of the severe reoccurring hernias. I just had to pay $500 out of pocket- which isn't bad at all.

Most insurance companies that cover skin removal require 100 pounds or more weight loss, 6 months of documented back or mobility issues due to excess skin, and/or skin breakdown/rashes. My best advice is if you start losing and realize you are going to have excess skin, start going to your primary care doc to document any skin issues immediately. This way by the time you're ready for the skin removal you've already got all the medical documentation you need.

Best wishes on your journey!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
