Gonna Get My Groove Back.....

Recommended Posts

Hi All...

This is my 1st posting of this journey.. One week from Friday (5.24.13) is my day... Been reading a lot on this site, I love it! All the questions and answers, seem to set my mind somewhat at ease. I've spoken with a few folks on turnaround time back to work---I have my procedure on Friday and back to work on Tuesday... Hopefully, I will be ok since previous surgeries were quick turnaround time for me.. Nothing strenuous at desk on phones all day-- fingers crossed... Any recommendations? Any other surgeries that day?

That's a pretty aggressive return to work date. I thought the same thing since I have a desk job and work from home, but I felt pretty beat up and dehydrated for a few days. Are they prepared to let you have a few more days if you need it? Good luck with the surgery. Congrats on the beginning of your exciting journey!

"I have my procedure on Friday and back to work on Tuesday"

Who do you think you are? Governor Christie? ;)

I was back to work(I too work from home) the same day of surgery, but just an hour or so. But definitely 3-4 days later I was back full time. I had an easy recovery compared to so many I see here. Just be prepared to take some afternoons off that next week if you need to.

My surgeon, who flew to Mexico an had surgery by Dr Ortiz on Friday claims to have done an operation on Monday! Good for all you people who can. I enjoyed my couple days of rest!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
