Desperate for answers...

I'm 2.5 weeks post op lapband. On day 3 post op I had a horrific dry heave episode where I was literally vomiting the gas and air out of my stomach...lasted 4 hours. Doc tells me to walk and take gas x and use a heating pad...same advice I got here....

Well, it's not stopping. I've dry heaved air and bubbles every other day. Never food. It's only air. And its happened daily for the last 4days. Doc is mystified...can't figure out what is going on. I'm scheduled for tests next Friday, but can't imagine another week of this.

It starts with severe pain building in my left chest and under my shoulder blades. When I feel that I know what's happening so I stop eating because the nausea sets in. This is usually around 2-3pm. Between 6-8 pm I will start vomiting. Lasts usually 30 minutes or so because I know how to get it over with now. And then my body is exhausted.

I'm barely eating...not getting enough calories or Protein, but I literally cannot eat after noon because I'm daily sick to my stomach.

By the next morning I'm feeling just fine. And then that afternoon it starts again.

Has anyone had this experience...? I've walked and walked. I'm asking gas x. I have heating pads and hot baths. None of it is working.

I'm thinking maybe the Vitamins may be causing it? I don't want this to be the new norm for me. I'm miserable right now and frustrated that my doctor has no clue how to help me...I'm desperate for any advice or wisdom!

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry!

First, I'm shocked your doc hasn't called in a prescription anti-nausea med. I actually keep some on hand at all times. I would call and ask for one. (I'd insist on one)

Are you still taking pain killers?

Is it possible you're allergic to something new you're eating, like the Protein shakes?

Was any Fluid put into your band at the time of surgery?

That's crazy , sorry you are going through that, you may be right about the Vitamins though on an empty stomach they will make me sick to my stomach maybe try going off of them and see if that helps

Most Multivitamins make me vomit!! So I take Flinstones Vitamins 2x a day (not at the same time and with meals) with no problem. My doctor actually suggested that before I told him I couldn't handle multivitamins.

Thankyou!

I actually do have an anti nausea prescription and it does not affect this. I am not taking any pain killers, I was thinking maybe I've "suddenly" become lactose sensitive? I've never had this problem before, but I'm putting together a "try this" list and no dairy is one item on there for me to try including no Vitamins. Doc says there was maybe 4ml in band at the time of the surgery so I don't think it's that either.

I am currently taking B12 and a children's chewable...multivitamins also make my stomach hurt which is why we went with a children's but maybe that's too much also? It just doesn't make sense with the vomiting air thing though...I've never had that side effect from vitamins...

<sigh>

So just in case anyone ever has this same issue...it's the Vitamins. I quit them all and dairy four days ago...no more pain and no more vomitting. I added dairy back in (small amount) today and I'm still fine.

I see a nutritionist tomorrow so I'll be figuring out a good way to eat my Vitamins in my food choices.

Glad you figured out what the issue was :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
