What is going on with my body?

Recommended Posts

I know this subject has been discussed before because I posted in it. However, the more weight I'm losing the colder I am. I can't stand the AC but we have to have it on so it won't be so hot. When watching TV I am completely wrapped in a blanket in order to stay warm. I sleep in flannel PJ's with a thick blanket and comforter. Do any of you know why our bodies change like that? Will it ever stop meaning will I stay cold all the time?

Have you had your thyroid checked? Hypothyroidism can cause the type of cold you're talking about. When my dose of thyroid hormone isn't high enough, I'm miserable cold; can't seem to regulate my body temperature. But when the hormone level is just right, I'm totally fine. Just a thought.....

Think of your body as a campfire, the more wood you throw on, the hotter that fire burns, same thing with food. As us you decrease the amount of food, your metabolism slows. That and fat is an insulator, as you lose it, your heat loss increases. Yes it will get better as your body adjusts, exercise and building muscle will help boost your metabolism.

It's why animals (including humans) put on weight in winter. For the insulation. When you lose, you lose your insulation. The more weight you lose, the colder you will feel.

But it doesn't sort of level off, or maybe you just acclimatise after a while. Maybe after 3 or 4 years or so? Lol!

I'm freezing all the time now, too, but considering a lost an entire person in body weight, it doesn't surprise me. I'll take cold and healthy anyday. :P

I am seriously freezing all the time now. Before losing weight, I would wear short sleeves in the winter because I was always so sweaty. Now, it's 70 degrees outside and I'm wearing a hoody and freezing, In fact even as I type this right now, I'm covered in a thick fuzzy blanket yet still cold.

Fat is insulation. The more fat you lose, the less insulation you have. It makes sense we're cold.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
