Which Exercise To Avoid?

Recommended Posts

Are there any exercises to avoid? I don't want any complications. No flipped ports or anything.

I can do anything that I did pre-band. I took it easy on the stomach crunches for the first six weeks, but after that didn't worry about it. I don't even think about my band or port when I'm working out.

No one has mentioned any exercises to avoid on here but u must always be in line with what your surgeon says especially the time line for specific exercises :)

I was banded a little over two weeks ago and I started exercise two weeks out. I just have been listening to my body when I did Zumba about half way through it started to hurt my port site when I jumped up so I just modified it so I didn't jump. I won't tackle crunches until week 6 but I really want to start them because lower stomach is my trouble area

Check with your surgeon. I was told no strenuous exercise for six weeks. Your stomach needs to heal. Take it easy!

I'm not doing anything yet besides walking. I was thinking into the future.

I do all sorts of exercises.... Gym, cardio, zumba, pole fitness, etc. you'll be okay! Just listen to your body if you're nervous. :)

I am wondering if set up exercise could affect the port! I mean if I grow muscles in the abdominal, will that push the port out?

Walking for now, anything after, no problem with sit-ups after you are ok'd for full exercise from your surgeon. I did not have good ab muscles, so I did reverse sit up at the gym! Good luck,Karen

I am wondering if set up exercise could affect the port! I mean if I grow muscles in the abdominal, will that push the port out?

The port is attached to the abdominal muscles, on top, under the fat...the more fat you loose, the more visible the port becomes....I now have zero belly fat..you can see every nook and cranny of my port, and can even trace the tubing under the skin till it goes deep....I can grab my port between my index finger and thumb and move it around a little.....if it were to ever flip, I could probably flip it back myself....but it is still attached and the skin also holds it tight so I don't see that happening....

Also, as my abs got tighter and harder, there was pinching and tearing pains which my Dr. told me is was normal...for me...even congratulated me that I was getting those pains...which have stopped a long time ago...

I do all kinds of ab exercises....one I'm doing now is I am horizontal to the floor on this apparatus, only supported only from my lower waist down....holding a 35lb weight behind my head I flex down till my head just touches the floor, then extend up and arch as high as I can go...3 sets of 24.....

I do other types also, never afraid of complications to my port.....it seems to me, that peo[ple who have issues with ports flipping, are those with a great deal of belly fat...but that's my own observation....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
