I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I know we all want to succeed at weight loss -- but at what cost? You know from your post that where you are at isn't where you're supposed to be. You have to do what is best for your health or else it doesn't matter how skinny you are because you won't be able to enjoy it.....Please follow your Doc's advice. Take care of yourself. We are all here for you..............hang in there ((hugs))

Since it is an emergency surgery due to vomiting, which could lead to dehydration, could there be a chance that your insurance would cover it?

My insurance no longer cover anything obesity related, but when my band slipped and I could not eat or drink for 5 days and was dehydrated they paid for the removal. I don't think that you want the band totally removed, but maybe they would help with a port? My insurance required me to be admitted through the ER. I did and they admitted me and then the doctor came and did the surgery.

Maybe your insurance would help you!

Robin,

I had the same question as one of the previous postings. Why did you pay for a nick that caused abdominal bleeding. I have never heard of a fill leading to bleeding to death.DOesnt your doc take responsibility for this??? Not trying to make trouble but if it were me and I had to cough up the cash for something that is an UNHEARD of complication due to a fill, I would be the first person on line talking to a lawyer. I dont care how nice the doc is. Thats negligence.

Please seek another opinion. I know that here in DFW area, they can do an unfill on a portless person with a twilight in office rather than being completely knocked out at the hospital . If a doc is really willing to help you, he can use a procedure code that will be accepted by your insurance. Just some ideas. Please get the unfill and a second opinion.

You have alot on your plate"literally" . All I can add is that I will be praying for you & I hope you stick with what ever the doctors feel is best for you. Its your health that should be your one & only concern right now. I know about not having finance & wondering what will happen, I pray that the doctors & insurance co. will work with you instead of against you. Best of Luck- truely!

I want to be honest with you Robyn and tell you that your post just freaks me out soo badly.

The certainty of uncertainty....freaks me out. I will pray for you. I don't know what else to do, having never been in that situation and hope to never be. I'm just going to pray that you'll be ok. And that whole artery thingy...I don't want anyone touching me now.

Robyn,

I second the suggestion to just stay on all liquids for now. I have a feeling that you getting tighter and tighter is due to you irritating your esphagus, it swelling, you irritating it, it swelling more... so maybe if you can be on liquids and not pb/vomit so much it might not get worse? Can you have your doctor inject you with an anti-inflamatory? I know when Nykee was too tight and her doctor was out of town, they gave her these injections and she was able to eat (though I don't know if she was as tight as you). *Maybe* if you can get the inflamation to go down, you can do liquids for a while *safely* and hold off on surgery..?

I just saw this... I'm worried, too...

Robyn, I hope everything is ok. Dr. Benavides is in Dallas (Richardson) and he's pretty good. You might call the surgery center of Richardson and explain the complications and see if they can bill it to insurance as medically necessary. I don't see why anyone wouldn't.

Take Care!!!! And - I'm so sorry you're having so much trouble! (((hugs)))

Robin, I don't understand why it cost YOU $13,000 because THEY nicked your artery?

Of course I agree with everyone else that you should have this fixed ASAP. If your Dr brings you can say this is medically necessary, as he did with the port, perhaps your insurance will cover it again?

I wish you wouldn't have felt embarassed to tell us this months ago. We might have been able to convince you to go in earlier and save yourself this misery. *hugs*

Robyn,

I am so sorry you're going through this. I hope that we haven't seen a post from you today because you're recovering from surgery which was covered by your doctors and the hospital.

Thank you for sharing your story with us - I'm sure it was hard to do. Try to let go of some of the guilt you're carrying over the expense of these surgeries. You made a decision to make your life - and the lives of your loved ones - better, which you absolutely deserved then, and STILL do now. Give yourself a break - you haven't done anything wrong.

Nothing in our common situations are guaranteed and your post helps me to remember how incredibly lucky I am to have this tool at my disposal and that I have to take advantage of it every minute of every day because I may not have it tomorrow.

Robyn, please be well - recovered and back in the battle as soon as you have healed from this, (please God) your last, surgery.

Hi Guys-

I'm still here, tight as ever...... On liquids today, and still not a PB'less day (is that a word??) I'm supposed to call the nurse tomorrow to see what the official word is on the pricing. Pray for me tomorrow afternoon.

I noticed many of you mentioning the knicked artery thing......Guys here's the thing....it was a fluke, it was not negligence in any way shape or form. When you accept the risk of someone sticking a 6 inch needle blindly into your abdomen in close relation to your internal organs, you have to accept that this is a known risk. Being an RN (in the sue happy specialty of OB), I know that in order to have a legitimate lawsuit (legitimate being the key word), you have to prove that the medical personnel has to NOT have acted as any other reasonable 'prudent' doctor. My doctor is wonderful, and it is not his OR my fault that I had this freaky blood vessel grow back and weave its way into the area of my port after surgery. It just happened......I dealt with it.....it's over. Now I have to deal with the new issue.....and hopefully someday I'll be able to say "I dealt with it...it's over!"

Thanks for all of your words of encouragement. I know what I need to do...just praying it works out. Has definitely put in my plans to go to Florida to work for 13 weeks this summer :angry I'll keep you posted

Robyn

Robyn~

Don't have any other advice to offer, but everyone can always use another hug. Will be sending prayers your way that the financing works out because going on as you are is just so dangerous. If I had it, I'd send the money to you! Keep us posted.

Hugs~

Emily

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
