How long should i take off work???

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering what the norm is to be off work. I was hoping just a week since I sit at a desk most of the day.

If you sit at a desk .. maybe like a day or two. That's all. Some people have it on friday cause their off Saturday and sunday and return Monday. It really depends on how you feel and what type of work you do ..I am a cna and do alot of lifting so I am not allowed to work for six weeks ..my work won't let me.. but I feel totally fine. Day after surgery I rested alot then the next day I was up doing house work playing with kids I felt just fine.it's just you cant lift anything over 20 pounds for 6 weeks ... but every ones feels different after surgery so that's up to you :)

I just read this and appreciate the question. I was curious about this too. My surgery is May 8th. Its on a wednesday. So going back to work on a Monday is not unthinkable?

I was perfectly fine 2 days after surgery

But it really depends on age, comorbidities, and overall health of the patient.

A week should be more than enough even if you are not a "fast healer"

I had lots of vacation so I took a full week off, but I drove the next day after surgery (within 12 hours) without any problems. I had no problems other than some gas which the heating pad helped me alot.

I also had plication and a hernia repaired. I had scheduled two weeks of vacation even though I have a desk job and was very glad to be off that long. I'm amazed at those that say the were functioning almost normal by the end of the second day. Moving too fast or stretching would cause me such pain for at least five days.

mine was not the pain.... as a vet. of surgeries... too many to count. I take the time off to just rest. The Anastasia is what gets me...

I am only 12 days post op.. also have a desk job... I had surgery on a Wednesday and was back at work the following Monday... I would say though if I had had the option that Monday and Tue I would have only worked half days bc work kicked my tail even though I just sit on my butt all day... after that I was fine! Good luck w your surgery! !

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
