My new journey begins again tomorrow (Tues)

Recommended Posts

So here I sit tonight as scared as I did 5 yeas ago when I first got my band. I don't remember much about when I first got it or how to properly take care of it but I look forward to learning all over again and doing it right this time. The butterflies are in full force as I try to positively imagine my new journey. What will he do? Will he tighten me so I can use it like others? Will I be able to hold strong and fight the "food demons"? So many thoughts... I will make sure to journal my journey (good n bad) as to share with others who might be going thu the same thing.

Here is to a new way of living..........

Welcome back to bandsterville. Don't be afraid to ask questions even though you're an oldtimer by your surgery date. Contrary to what some may tell you, there is such a thing as asking a stupid question!

For instance:

Why can't I eat candy? That's a stupid question! Duh!

Is it OK to stick my finger down my throat and make myself throw-up? That's easy, no, it can cause your band to slip so it's a stupid question!

Is it OK to guzzle an entire 2 litre bottle of coke? No, it's not OK. The bubbles will make your pouch explode( ;)).jk

So now you know some of the stupid questions not to ask and any other questions are OK :P

Welcome again and let's get readddddyyyyy to RUMMMMMMMMMMMMMBBBBBLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLE!

So I went to Doc and got a fill and don't really feel anything just yet other than my stomach growling. :-) I did get more information however about my surgery 5 yrs ago. I have a 12cc band and at my 1yr visit I had a 7cc fill. I only had 4cc's left of saline in my band today but he said that was normal because over time it does evaporate even inside your body so he only put me back to 6cc's for now. I go back in 2 months to get another fill. I lost a total of 68 pounds during that first year which is more than I thought I had. So I had only gained 34 of those pounds back in the past 4 years so it does work some even when you aren't eating correctly 100% of the time. So I will see what each day holds for me and how I can get over this empty feeling while I am on liquid diet for the next 3 days min.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
