sedentary job, days out of work?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I'm new here. Just begining my research for lap band. I have a sedentary job, but there is about a 5 min walk from where I park to my desk every day. Also, I get up every two hours and take a walk around our data center. Other than that the job is sedentary. Question: How long do doctors typically recommend that you stay out from work? I'm hoping its no more than 5-7 days. I usually have three days off in a row and can probably manage 1 week off work (new job). I just found out my new insurance covers this and there isn't a mandatory 6 month diet either. I would like to do this asap, but haven't accrued time off yet!

Hi there. I have a similar situation with my job. My Surgeon recommended two weeks off and I took one. I could have gone back to work after day 3 honestly. Recovery itself is not so bad but what happens is you get tired easily and you lack energy. Part of it is from just having surgery and the other part is from the lack of food.

I would say the walk is not a problem after all walking is encouraged to get the gas out of your system. I was walking the hospital halls two hours after surgery. When I got home I would walk around the house and out to the mailbox.

Thanks for your reply!.... I'm so psyched that there isn't a 6 month supervised diet required that I'd rather get this done asap and not wait. I'm pretty sure I could manage a week of unpaid off time, but I know I couldn't take two weeks.

I got my lap band surgery on Thursday and took the Thursday and Friday off. I went back to work on Monday. I just avoided driving for the next week and just had someone drive me to work and back. You may also want to consider if you have any stairs or elevators and if you have a long walk from where you get dropped off to where your desk is. If that is a comfortably short distance then I would say that a week is more than sufficient.

I just had the surgery as well, on a Wednesday. I could have honestly went back to work on Monday, but I was tired and pretty much out of energy, so I took a few extra days.

I took a full week off and was glad for it. My recovery was harder than I anticipated. If you can baby yourself for awhile, I say go for it.

Had surgery on Thursday and back to work on Monday. For me that was plenty of time.

I had my surgery on a Monday and went back the following Tuesday. I waited until after my follow up appointment to go back. Probably could have gone back before but, it didn't hurt to have those extra days of rest.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
