Lapband Mini-port 2008/2009 defect

Recommended Posts

FYI....for all you bandsters who were banded in 2008 or 2009. I had an unfill in 10/12 and have been back 5 times for fills since. Each time I would feel restriction for about 48 hours or so and then nothing. Like I was not even banded. So, I finally ask to see the Doctor (as opposed to the nurses who usually do my fills). He looked at my chart, felt my port site and immediately said I had a defective port. He said there was a known defective mini-port that was produced in 2008/2009 and that he was sure that was my problem. Long story short, I am having it replaced next week so that my band can start working properly. I just wanted to let my fellow bandsters know in case anyone else is having a similar issue and you were banded during that time frame He said the defect always take place after having an unfill. It is good to know that I am not crazy and there is a fix for the problem. I was starting to wonder if it would ever work for me again.

Got my band in Oct 2009. I don't have those symptoms, but it's nice to know. Thanks for sharing!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
