Bring on April 12!

Recommended Posts

So my surgery is scheduled for April 12 and I am SUPER excited/nervous.

I'm not scared as I've had surgery in the past and I've been told the banding surgery only takes about 20 minutes :)

I don't have any friends or family that have had banding done so I have been relying on my doctors and info online - so happy I found this forum and reading everyone experiences.

Have any of u had to have a sleep test before ur op?

Many people have the sleep test. It will help the surgeons to know what to expect in surgery. Keep reading and learning, the more you know going in the better of you will be! Good luck on the final tests and surgery!

I think it's all part of the pre-op testing. I had mine done a couple of weeks ago and was told a few days ago that I do indeed have sleep apnea. I was shocked lol I really didn't think I'd have it..so now, when I go back to do my second sleep study, I will be coming home with a Cpap machine. Are you required to have a liquid diet before your surgery? My surgery is on the 26th of April..I'm super excited too!! I won't start my liquid diet till your surgery date :) I have decided to try and lose a few pounds on my own, I started on Monday, (march 18) and weighed 300.5..I'll weigh myself again on Monday. I'm not expecting to lose 10 or even 5 pounds, I'll be happy with 2 lol considering I just stopped eating fast food, with the exception of subway, junk food, and eating smaller portions, and very little exercise..I'm determined to be healthy and skinny! I don't know what skinny is. I've been over weight most of my life..I can't wait to be able to keep up with my 9 year old daughter (she is a baseball player) and I myself love love love to play softball!! I can't wait to join my sisters co-Ed league!!

Good luck on your surgery!! Keep us posted :)

I go in for surgery April 12. I was told to have a slimfast shake for two Meal Replacements and eat one healthy meal. Not to exceed 1200 total calories a day for two weeks prior..so i will start on this friday. Drink Water only and start walking before the surgery to get the weight loss started. I was told to bring my cpap machine with me the day of surgery. I have lost 7 pounds since my original weigh in back in Sept 2012 at my lap band seminar. I really want to lose 15 pounds before surgery, but I would be happy with 10....lol Just ready to buy smaller clothes..tired of shopping in the plus size!

Wow! Sure is great to see so many of u :) I am also shocked to find out I have sleep apnea! So now I'm using a Cpap machine. Being skinny is a feeling I haven't forgotten as it wasn't that long ago. Due to a foot injury 2 years ago I've gained over 40kg! It's been so hard putting on so much weight in such a short time and especially with having a foot injury! I'm at the point where if I don't lose weight it's never going to heal. I have started my Optifast diet today but have been told to replace all my meals ;( lol anyway I'm sure I will survive. Happy 'chocolate free' Easter ya'll x

I'm the same as you sort of. I gained almost all my extra 100 lbs in 2 years. I've only been overweight like this for 5 years. Time to get back to skinny me!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
