Getting so excited

Recommended Posts

Surgery date is May 8th. As I began this journey I was very skeptical about doing it. I was worried that I would miss my food too much. I was scared to think of life without my binges. I was scared that I may do something that I may regret. Most of all...I was scared it would end up like every other diet I've tried. FAILING! So, I began to research. I found this forum and it has been a life saver. All of you on here are so helpful and encouraging. I know that with all of you in my corner I can do this. I have come see that although I won't eat the way I used to, its for the better. I will be healthier, happier and free from the food control. I bought Dr. Huberman's book "Through Thick and Thin" and this was awesome. I suggest it to anyone who is researching weight loss surgery. I love coming on here and reading different stories, trials and tribulations. It makes me feel like there is hope, thank you to each and everyone of you who have commented on this site, whether pro or con. It was all helpful, and I am hooked.

Good luck with your surgery. My word of advice (having had the band for 3 1/2 yrs) is to HAVE PATIENCE! You didn't gain the weight overnight and you're not gunna lose it overnight. After having 2 fills and 3 months after surgery, I felt like I had no band at all. I could eat the portions I had previously, and did. Then came the magical 3rd fill (4 mths into it) and BAMM! I started.

Congrats on your decision. You will question that decision several times before May, but I recommend that you stick with the facts, not listening to everyones input. It works for most of the people who actually work it (it's like the AA slogan "It works if you work it")

I agree with New Dawn. You have a great attitude, you've done your homework and you know where to find support. You're ready, congrats!

I think that the fear of failing another diet,is something we all went through before banding. But I'm here to tell you, Follow your Drs orders and you will be successful.

Best wishes!

There is always hope! Congrats on your decision! They didn't promise me it would be easy...just worth it. So far...they were right. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
