It seems like I have been submerged in this process forever, but I FINALLY got my surgery date last evening!!! April 8th is D-day... or should I say B-day!!! I'm nervous but more Excited!!!!... I am not worried about my surgery. I am a registered nurse and have done time in the OR. In fact, I've seen my surgeon in action (though he wasn't putting in a band). Still, it is strange to think I'll be the one on the table! My nerves stem from a fear of failure. I have lost just over 20lbs so far and feel like I'm already on the road to the new me.... I just REALLY want this to work! Anyway, the 8th feels sooo ok far away, but I know that before I know it, it will be t he 1st and then my surgery will be a week away!

Hang in there, it will happen before you know it. Use the time to start sampling Protein Shakes and powders and ridding your house of BAD food. Also spend time with family so that they understand what you will be going through. It is great to have them on your team. And visit us often... We are just a post away! Congratulations on getting your date!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery... You will be so happy you did this.. I wondered at first if it was a good decision and had real second thoughts right before but I reasoned that if I didn't do it I would still be struggling a year from now with health issues and being miserable... keep up with this group, there are some long time bandsters on here with a world of information and support. Being a nurse will help you deal with the after effects of the surgery.. God Bless you on your journey.

Thank you! I have found that I like body fortress Protein Powder and havee all the flavors. I'm afraid I wasted my money on the strawberry though. Yuck! But I am excited. I did 45 minutes on the elliptical today (busting a$$ at 165rpms)... 20 min on the arc trainer yesterday (this is much harder). I FINALLY felt impressed with myself for the time on the elliptical! I can imagine that if I can do this in the 230s, just t hink of t he possibilities in the 100s!!! I do cardio and weight 3x per week.... when it warms up, I want to add walking with my dogs again on the other 4 days when I don't want to drive to the gym! C'mon spring!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
