I just got my surgery date! April 26! I'm so excited and ready for this!!

Is there something specific that I need to be taking for my two week liquid diet?

Is it just plain liquids that I can take? I've read so many things about Protein Shakes and whatnot on this site.

Is this provided to me or do I go out and buy it? If I need to buy it, what am I to buy??

Can I take said liquids every time I get hungry?

Or am I to drink as if I were eating a regular meal?

They will let me know when my two week liquid diet is to start, right? Even though, I plan to start off slowly myself April 1st to mentally prepare myself. I know I can do it.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Every surgeon has their own ideas what works and because of that only your own surgeon can answer your question.

This is all information you should've gotten from your own doctor. If you haven't, give them a call or make an appointment and ask them to clarify exactly what you should be doing.

Best wishes.

Yikes, I thought my surgeon was bad about educating his patients.

Definitely think you need to call as well as every surgeon is different. Mine was pretty simple.

Two weeks of opti fast. I got 3 opti fast shakes a day as well as all the sugar free 15 cal popsicles I could eat, chicken broth, and sugar free Jello. It was pure torture. I haven't cried in a long time, but I was on the verge of tears. But, it was all worth it. 4 days post op and my hunger is curbed with a tiny bit of food. Crazy.

Good luck :)

I am five days into my pre op liquid diet. My Dr. gave me a list of stuff to eat.

sugar free everything!

but here is my list

Broths, Jello (nothing with fruit), coffee, tea, diet drinks, fruit juice, popsicles, crystal light, koolaide, oatmeal, grits, cream of wheat, any cream Soups, v8, pudding and fruit smoothies.

I am finding that its a lot harder mentally to get around cravings.

I have found if i eat oatmeal for Breakfast i can make it a lot better.

Good luck!

It is amazing the differences in these preop diets. Mine two is Protein Shakes for Breakfast and lunch, fruits in between for Snacks and 3oz lean meat, salad with balsamic vinegar, 6 unsalted crackers and 1/2 cup fruit. Seem to stress no milk products or eggs. Must say it is working though down 11 lbs since last Tues. Best of luck with your surgery.

I just received an email from the nutritionist..she sent me a 4 week calendar of what to eat. 2 weeks prior to surgery I am to replace 2 meals with the Protein Shakes, and i can have as much from the list of unlimited foods, which are mainly green veggies. I was weighed at my PCP office last month (Feb 15) and it said weighed 301, when I went to my seminar,(March 1) it said I weighed 297, I was happy I had lost 4 pounds! Then I went to do my pre-ops test and it said I weighed 301!! (March 13) I went back yesterday to my PCP for results and weighed 297! LOL I finally went out and bought myself a scale. I'm just gonna follow that one. It currently says 300.5. I'm not due to start my diet till the 29th. But I decided to eat better as of now. I'm not taking any shakes at the time, but I am eating healthier and exercising at least an hour a day. I'm SO ready for this, and I can't wait till the 26!

Oh and I got my results to my sleep test and turns out I do have sleep apnea :/ I have to go back and have the test done again with the cpap. I hope that's all till my surgery, cause I can't afford to miss any more work and just drive 2 1/2 hours..

You might have to stay on the cpap for one year. I had 2 over night stays for the sleep study one month apart. Wasn't too bad.

Good Luck with your surgery!

5 days until I get banded :)

A whole year?? I guess I gotta do what I gotta do, huh?

5 more days for you! Yay! I'm still excited and not yet nervous lol how are you feeling? With it being only 5 days away?? Do you by any chance have MFP? I don't have any friends yet and was wondering if you had it so we can add each other :)

What's mfp?? I'm not nervous at all. I had an endoscopy done back in August so I know what to expect. I feel good down 16lbs. I have alot to do before surgery day to keep me occupied and thinking about it.

I had one done too a week ago, I wasn't nervous at all either, I hope I feel that way the day of..

MFP is My Fitness Pal, it's an app, not sure if you can go on-line for it, but I'm sure you can, that helps count your calorie intake, exercise and whatnot. You can add friends to help you also. You should check it out..

No I don't use MFP, I don't even workout. I don't have the time between work full time and school full time.

It's been a long journey to surgery date. Lots of ups and down getting rejected from the insurance was big

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
