1 week banded with plication

Recommended Posts

Stress wasn't the word. My life became a soap opera for a stretch. A bad one at that. So for six months I just focused on trying to fix all that. Lol

Melody - what caused it; anything you can put your finger on? That is scary, especially because this is a WHOLE new deal. I hear about throwing up in these forums, but it sounds like it's not bad, as long as it doesn't happen on a regular basis.

Draven - that's a good way of looking at it. And yeah, a 10 pound gain over 50 is quite an accomplishment!

I understand that the plication is supposed to reduce common issues with the band, but I wonder how a reversal would play out. I would think that the folds in the stomach stick together and scar over time. That's my concern. In the long term, would it matter? (not really asking you that question.....just the whirlwind of thoughts, concerns & fears that go through my mind).

He told me , as well as some sites, that a reversal of the plication was as simple as cutting three stitches. Also, I didn't see much cause about needing a plication reversal. Even if the band came out the plication would stay. That was my main selling point. This way I could use it as a back up incase the band needed to ever be removed.

Draven - yeah, I like that idea, too. I spoke with a woman who works with my surgeon, and she just had plication added to her 6 year old lap band. She's been very successful with the band alone, but since he was going to remove her gallbladder, she asked him to do the plication at the same time. She said it really helps with feeling full, and she's very happy she did it. For me, it's going to be a game time decision; one that I'll make as they're sticking the needle in my arm! LOL

Melody - I hear that generally, people have problems with bread. I guess a tortilla falls into that category.

Please keep us posted on your first post-op appointment.

I was banded 12/19 with plication. I don't feel I've lost more weight or faster with the plication. But I have never been HUNGRY or said I'm STARVING. I did get a fill at two months and will get one next week but only cuz I wasn't lasting a full 4 hours with every meal. I have just about a cup of food three times a day with a snack at about 4pm some days cuz I don't make it home until after 7 for dinner most days. And Im not exercising cuz of a lower back issue. Going to orthopedic and hope to start soon. Don't know if this helps you any but thought I'd share.

Tara - thanks for posting. Anything I hear from banded plication patients is helpful. My feelings about doing it change from day to day. Yesterday I was sure that I'd do it. This morning.......not so much. But I do agree with Draven, that if the band fails, the plication is in place as a backup. That's a positive way of looking at it, and going into this surgery, we can't know what to expect. Everyone is so different.

When you're able to start exercising, I'm sure the weight will start coming off a little quicker. Unfortunately (cuz I hate it), exercise is half the battle. But I do feel so much better when doing it.

Thanks again..... Good luck with your back. If your doctor writes an order for physical therapy, the physical therapist can help you with an exercise program that will be easy on your back, knees.....whatever issues you may have.

the only thing i would say, is whatever you get

the band or the band and plication..let it work and you help it..

if you do, i promise you will lose......

i couldnt exercise (my knees/legs/back hurt) so very bad.

so if you want your calories you can lose w/o much exercise. i am

just now walking...and i know the more i do, the more inches i will lose.

its a great thing...wish you all the best of luck.

hi Tara. I agree. I don't feel i've lost more or faster as well. In all fairness there was a period where i put eating on the back burner and know thats why I didnt have as much success as i could have. I am happy i did it. i hate to say this but i have seen a few unsuccesful banded people. and i think i would have been another if i didnt also have plication. I gained back 10 pounds during that stretch, however I didn't gain it all back. I have two friends that did, and they were not plicated. But now I am back and going strong.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
