No one can tell ive lost weight! Gggrrr!

Recommended Posts

So I was banded on 2/19 and had my post-op yesterday. I'm all healed and have lost 20lbs. I feel more energy, my clothes are looser and I'm on my journey. The funny thing is, when I tell people I've lost 20lbs they look at me sideways and to be honest, i dont really see it either!Lol!

20lbs is 20lbs, right? So how come my 20lbs is invisible? Did I lose it in my feet or something?

( I'm not complaining, I just find it so strange!)

I was banded on 2/19 also! I have lost 26 pounds so far (Yay!), I have only had 1 person notice and I think that was just because she knew I was having the surgery and I was out of work for two weeks so when I came back she said something. And to make matters worse.... A friend of mine asked my tall skinny 140lb husband if HE lost weight while I was standing right next to him! He hasn't lost any weight! If anything he has gained. That made me SOOO mad to have someone point his weight out and not my weight loss. But like other people said, I'm sure as I lose more weight and get new clothes people will start to notice. Hang in there :)

Loasing weight is a funny thing. I shared my surgery with very few people. I did share it with about 5 good friends and one of those friends, from the very day of surgery has never, not once asked about my weight loss. (I've lost 99 lbs now.) She has never acknowledged my weight loss nor asked how I am doing or even told me I look good now- NOTHING! At first I felt like maybe my weight loss wasn't noticeable and then I just finally realized she must have an issue with me losing weight. Either way, it took a good 45 lbs for ANYONE to finally notice my weight loss. I'm 5'9 and carried my weight relatively evenly.

You will get the compliments as the weight comes off, but I have found there are mannnnnny different factors in play when it comes to people acknowledging you've lost weight. :)

GOOD JOB!

I've been losing 2lbs a day on average since my surgery on 2/28 personally I find it barely noticeable and anytime someone does compliment me no matter what they actually say all I hear in my head is "you were sooooooooo fat"

It's funny because today at work someone said "Wow! You look great! You have a waist now!"

Um, yeah-- I guess I know what I looked like before! Lol

I planned on telling only a few people. Then someone told me about another woman at work who had the band over a year ago. I noticed that this woman had lost a considerable amount of weight and asked her how she did it( this was before my decision to band.) She went on and on about dieting and walking etc, but didn't mention the band. I felt misled, even though it isn't my business, I guess.

Now I tell anyone. Some of us need the surgical intervention and I don't want to be the one misleading others.

( I also have a friend who isn't happy that I'm losing weight. She liked me being her "fat friend.")

As the time goes on, I have shared my surgery with more and more people, as I see fit. Two have had surgery and one is waiting for surgery (sleeve, not band). So I do share..but I am VERY selective. For me, it was a personal thing. I chose to tell only those people who I felt had my best interest at heart. I have lost and gained and lost and gained the same 100 lbs over and over. Nobody has a doubt in their mind that I can lose weight, band or not. My issue has always been keeping it off. So Interestingly, nobody ever asks me "how" I've lost weight, because they've watched me do this a million times. I worked out 6 days a week, have completely changed my eating habits, etc. So people simply don't ask because they see me doing the work, as they have seen me do in the past. I have never felt like I need to preface any conversation I have when I meet someone, "Oh by the way, I have a band." And I'm thankful for that. But I have many different friends who have bands (and know I have mine now) that I guess it's just something that we don't really "talk" about anymore. But in the beginning, I am SOOOOOO glad I chose to only tell my closest friends. Where I hope the band "shines" for me is helping me in keeping it off. I'm crossing my fingers on that one, but I can say I've had such a major lifestyle change in the last 2 years in my eating that I am hopeful I have succeeded the time in making a change that will last me a lifetime. That said, there are still a few people that do not know I have a band and I will NEVER tell them because of how terrible I have heard them speak of others who have one. No thank you, I need only positivity in my Quest for health and I choose not to open myself to that whole can of worms!

I totally get that! I'm regret being so open one day! Most ppl that I've told want one are genuinely interested in how it goes. I've only ever gained weight so even this almost 25lbs is a shock to me and others!

I too was banded 2/18 and also lost 20lbs. I think I'm losing it from the top down. Like my face, boobs and maybe 5lbs in hips and tummy where it counts

Same here!!!!

There are some things I notice that other people can't... My wedding ring fits again.. My sneakers are getting super loose.. My socks don't leave indents on my ankles anymore.. My bra is one snap tighter..

I try to focus on these things :)

I actually can't wear my rings anymore. They're too big. Lol

I never seem to notice weight loss in other people until it hits about 40 lbs. My husband has mentioned that that is usually about the time people notice that he has lost weight as well.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
