I had my gallbladder removed in 2001. I don't think that there was that much of a problem. I have maybe 1 or 2 extra tiny scars on my abs area!

Actually, I think having no gall bladder when going in for surgery might be an advantage. My surgeon routinely prescribes medication after surgery to prevent gall stones from forming, since rapid weight loss can cause them and he doesn't want to have to do emergency gall bladder removal so soon after the band placement surgery!

I had mine out 3 months prior to being banded. My ejection fraction was very low when I was having right sided pain and a lot of nausea. He thought it was due

to the weight I lost during my six month preop dieting phase. Only problem that I have is Constipation which I never had prior to that surgery. And I still have it on occasion since being banded.

I had my gallbladder removed on my one year bandiversary. I was not planning on celebrating my first anniversary by an ER trip and admission to the same hospital where I was banded.

Has my gall bladder removed same day as my band was put in. Recovery sucked. I'm happy it is out because a lot of people have to have it removed after the surgery. No complications:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
