About to pay the deposit but I'm so nervous and my leg won't stop shaking. I'm petrified of failing or being one of those bandsters that don't lose.

Am I making the right decision?

30 y/o 5"6 240lbs with 100lbs to lose.

We can't answer that for you. All I can tell you is this is one of the better decisions I have made in my life. I am almost twice your age and I will tell you right now, going through most of your life being morbidly obese is not the way to live life.

That was me only a few weeks ago - alot of money and scary to think you are "wasting" it on yourself. You cannt be successful if you dont try!, I am having my surgery Tuesday - still scared but committed to try my very hardest.

only u know if your ready it h was been the best thing I every did for myself. It is a diet along with the band. Can you clean out your house from the junk food? can you stay on a plan? can you track all your food...if u said yes then you can do it..you have a better chance to losse weight with the bsnd then any other way so do it

I'm so happy to hear your positive experience line-dancer. that's great.

I'm scared because, as many here, I've failed on every other diet. How will this be different??

I am one of those bandsters who is a very slow loser and not at restriction after 6 months. Regrets - not at all. In 6 months I have never once gained a pound, just losing very slow.

Like I said above, my concern stems from the fact that I have, like many, failed on all other diets. Isn't this why we are all here? That's my biggest fear!

Like I said, almost twice your age which means I have probably failed at twice as many diets as you :lol: This can be different, all you have to do is remember that the band is a tool, it is not your master. If you want something that will help you succeed where you have failed in the past, you are in the right place. If you are looking for something that will force you to succeed and force you to not break the rules, then let me know when you find it.

For me the hardest part about being banded is not the change in food (I have found foods I really like that fit my plan) but the change in the way I have to eat. I have always eaten very very quickly. When the band is at restriction, you must take very small bites and chew chew chew. I still battle with that 3 years later. Also beware it will take time to get to "restriction". Seems like for lots of people its around the 3rd fill, was for me, and I have read that in many posts. That puts you at about 4 months post op. Until then you are in what is affectionatly called "bandster hell". The time between surgery and when your fills give you restricion. During that time it's like you don't have a band at all.

As said, only you can make the decision, this is just a little information to help. Best wishes!

Aint it the truth? I'm 1 yr 3 months out and I'm finally getting it down but still have my moments when I get too hungry or distracted and fall back into old habits.

I'm sure there were similar posts on this site when I was banded but I completely missed the bandster hell comments and that it would take 3-4 months to find some kind of restriction. No regrets, but 4 months of BH for me was pure torture but now just an unpleasant memory.

I am the bandster that didn't lose (for long). Well, I lost 70 lbs at first but then I stopped following the rules and found ways to cheat the band. I gained it all back. I am starting my journey over. You can do it! Stay focused. Best of luck.

It wont be different if you don't change your mind set. This was one thing I stuggled with. If I had will power I wouldnt need the band in the first place. The best advice I can tell you is listen to your band. Stop when it says stop. I did not do that and it made me sick and it was painful and I gained weight. I have so much regret. Please learn from my mistakes. Don't waste this wonderful gift.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
