I told a couple at work (as they worked directly for me/with me) and of course HR...the others just assumed I was taking time off..I say do and say what ever is comfortable for you. Its your life and its your business. Congrats on making a wonderful decision. it was the best one I ever made.

I've been honest with anyone who asks but that also means I go into detail. So I said I was getting a Laproscopic band procedure to address my high blood pressure and diabetes since my metabolism is slowing down as I age.

In the beginning I only told immediate family. Told work I was having surgery, but no details.

Now, I tell anyone who asks. I was even interviewed at work about it. That article went out to 3000 employees. Guess everyone knows now. Lol

You will tell who you want when you are ready.

Congrats on starting a new healthy life.

Just tell people you are on a high Protein diet and trying to cut down your portions. You tell who you want you only have to be accountable to is yourself. Best of luck. I told everyone but I am kind of an open book.

Actually, I've been at goal for about 2 months. I updated my ticker yesterday & that statement came up. Won't go away. Lol

Thanks so much!

I'm trying to decide how to mention this as I work in a call center and sit around a lot of people. I'm thinking that I'm going to just say I had medical things to take care of and I'm better now. I have 3 work friends that know and they are all outside of work friends too so I know them pretty well. My supervisor knows too but that's about it. I work in healthcare and confidentiality is huge in my department so I know no one's spilling.

I've found this to be quite true in my case. When I was first considering a lapband, I didn't tell anyone.

When I decided on a lapband, I told 2 people.

When I got my surgery date, I told a few more.

With two weeks until my procedure, I'm telling everybody! The pharmacist, the flower merchant, my neighbors!

The only people who don't know what I'm doing are those in HR (they work in another country so they don't see me anyway); all they know is I'm taking some medical time off. This is only because I don't want any comments about taking time off for elective surgery. They know I'm having a surgery, but they don't know it is elective.

in my case calling it elective would be like saying taking prescription medication is elective.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
