Hi Everyone! New to this site and the community here. What I've read so far leads me to believe I'm in the right place. I'm encouraged just reading the other posts.

My surgery is scheduled for March 19th. I've been trying to get this scheduled since October. A 'miscommunication' between my surgeon's coordinator and my insurance company created the long delay. Long story, it's over, and I'm on the schedule now so I'm happy.

I've been overweight my whole life. Genetically predisposed, I guess, growing up in an Italian family where every occasion was marked with celebratory consumption of massive amounts of food with every member of the family present and bringing more food than a small village in Italy would need to survive the week. The definition of "occasion" could be a wedding, a funeral, or a Wednesday because someone said, "I think I'll go to Grandma's house today" and it traveled through the family like a prayer chain.

Like most of us, I know how to diet, I don't know how to maintain. I decided on lapband because it would give me the control I lack and would allow me to keep that control the rest of my life. I seriously contemplated bypass or sleeve surgeries. Then I remembered I don't know how to maintain and I figured I'd end up being one of the statistics of those having gained all the weight back. I am not going to be that statistic!

I'll roam around here and get to know everyone. I think I found the right place.

Rosie

Welcome! My name is Rosie too =)

I am in your shoes with the whole Italian festivities thing. I have always been a yo-yo dieter and finally had enough. I just got banded yesterday and I am anxious to see how it all goes. I am still in shock that it really happened and that the band is now inside of me...very surreal feeling after an 11 month wait to get the surgery.

Good luck on your journey!

Hi! I'll be following you with my band on March 20th. It's an exciting and nerve-wracking time, isn't it? I, too, and viewing this as the end to my inability to maintain my weight loss.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
