I was shocked she asked and said -no!

But now I feel bad I lied and I can't look at her anymore.

Don't feel bad because I would have too. If you want to tell it is when you are ready.

I wouldn't feel bad, that was almost rude of her to just plain ask if you had surgery!

Could she know you had surgery? If she might know then being honest would be the best avenue.

Some people may be able to identify with your eating routines if they see you eat? Not many, but a few? I know if I saw someone(who had lost a lot of weight) eating tiny little bites of food and chewing like it was my last bite of food on this earth i might suspect something?

It was a personal question that shouldn't have been asked! However, when or if people find out the truth they won't think of her question as rude, but you as a fibber! I personally never told anyone, but those who did ask I told the truth. I'm not embarrassed or ashamed of my decision. I could care less whether people who are not a part of my immediate family think! Dont put your credibility on the line for anyone. If you don't want to answer the question, just say your not comfortable having the conversation with them or tell them it's none of their business. Either one of those comments in my opinion are better than a lie! Now your going to wonder what she told others and you'll have a hard time looking anyone in the eye! Good luck at work, I hope it works out for you! Gossip at work sucks!!

There were a lot of people i did not tell. My d-i-l came up with "she watches what she eats, and exercises a lot. All true! We both just left off teh other part to strangers and casual friends. Karen

This is funny because I've been around perfect strangers before and I can peg their behavior a mile away as a bariactric surgery patient. The old saying takes one to know one.

If you had the sudden impulse not to tell her chances are she isn't one you feel like telling. It's your business who you tell. Don't feel bad.

I have no wishes to share any medical history with anyone but my husband and 2 grown sons. It's nobody's business but mine and theirs. I feel not one bit guilty by responding to weight loss questions with "im careful with what i eat" period. That's it, end of story. I don't want to discuss my failures from the past, I don't want people watching me when I eat, I don't want anyone discussing me behind my back, I just want to get on to being a healthier me. I feel great, I feel empowered, I feel like this is the best time of my life. I'm so glad I had lapband surgery.

Some people I tell and others I don't. Although I have had a lot of people ask if I was "sick". Hmmm and then I felt compelled to say that I had lapband. After thinking about how to respond to that question the next time someone asked me if I was sick I said yes I was sick of being FAT!!!!

why feel bad so dont...it was nonya unless you wanted her to know..seems to me if you wanted her to know, you would have told her..look at her and everyone else in the world with a smile on your face...its pretty so you need to smile

I agree with what many people have said - it's really up to you and it's a personal matter and question. Typically I would only mention the person asked was seriously morbidly obese and I felt like they were seeking a solution.

Don't feel bad, your first instinct was to say no. Which means she's not worthy of knowing. I didn't tell anyone that wasn't immediatly related to me or my husband and I also asked them not to say anything about it. That was almost 2 years ago. Now, I'm comfortable discussing it with just about anyone. My 2 year band anniversary is March 11th. It took a while before I was comfortable talking about my band with just anyone, so don't feel bad for keeping it your business. You'll tell people when you're ready.

I tell everyone who asks... I'm in the army, and the Fat Guy stigma can really suck, so I had the procedure done.. Being in a workplace filled with Alpha males, you'd think I would shy away and get all macho. Nope. As a senior NCO, it's my job to lead by example, identify your weaknesses and overcome them, so I hide nothing and proudly explain my story.. I've gained nothing but respect from my superiors, peers and subordinates.. Honesty is the best policy.. Until your ready to share just say you had a "lifestyle change" partial truth..

I personally do not have a problem telling anyone who has complimented my weight loss and asked how did I do it? I love saying I had surgery and don't mind my coworkers knowing. We have luncheons quite a bit so there is no problem with them having meals planned with me in mind. I love it! I think it's all about your attitude and how you view self. Confidence is the key.
