Leatha...luckly for me, hubby does most of the pond maintance. We don't have any Water lillys left, we have hungry fish apparently and they ate them all down to the bulb pratically. LOL And yes we feed them! I think we need to remove some of the fish. I've counted 19 fish that have color and there are some black ones too, but they are hard to see to count. I love the size of yours. Next pond will be much bigger scale for us I'm sure. This one is a nice size as its near our front walk. I need to get some Water lily's started in the top pool, since there is NO fish in either of them.

Whens the best time to dig up and replant iris bulbs? Anyone know? I have tons of these, but would like to thin them out and move some to maybe the front yard....though it maybe too shaded. Thats the big problem with our yard, we have over 8 mature oak and elm trees, and most of the yard is too shaded to grow really pretty flowers. Currently have tons of hosta, azelas, monkey grass, and lentin roses.

OMGoodness.... you people are making me SO jealous!

Melissa, that pond is unbelievable. Honestly. That is beautiful!

Leatha!!!! have you added to your pond? I absolutely LOVE it! The picture of your spider lily (#2) touched my heart - my grandma's house was in the country and her yard seem to have tons of those lilies growing all over. LOVED all the pictures. Some seemed like you could submit them for photography awards.

Wow--beautiful ponds you guys! Leatha, I have tried and tried to grow waterlillies, but never even got a bloom! I think my little pond is too shaded.

Ground cover... what KIND of ground cover? I've got to admit it's some of those underground creepers that keep me only 90% organic. I've got a persistent ground cover type weed between my stone paths in back that I spray with roundup now & then. Other than constant vigilant weeding (or covering with black plastic and cooking--that's about all you can do with those kinds of things.

Clemantis... yeah, I've got some experience killing it. I could probably grow it in front where almost anything grows with the morning sun, but the backyard is where I'd like to have more climbers. I've bought clemantis twice now and it just died.

Ok, that's it... you're all hired. I can't even take ONE picture of my yard! I'm inspired. I made a feeble attempt to plant flowers in the front but they're tipped over to the side and look pitiful.... I'm going to give it a go. I LOVE the ponds! Are they hard to put in? My back yard is pretty good size and could use something like that! Boy, a lasagna garden and a pond - my husband is going to be busy! :-)

As long as you don't have alot of tree roots they are easy. LOL, unfortunatly digging the dang hole was the hardest for us...I should say me, hubby kept disappearing! LOL Once you get the hole dug its just a matter of getting it level...especially if you use one of the kits. Ours is actually pieces of two kits...as this is the second version. The first version sprang a leak and we had to drain it to locate it. Once drained we decided to rearrange the whole pond and bought a bigger preformed piece I think from lowes. I don't think we will redo this one again, but do plan to do a bigger pond at our next house (which is at least 2 years away for us). The most important thing is to make sure you have a big enough pump to get good waterflow. Waterflow is key.

I absolutely HATE digging! I would rather walk on the dreadmill for 3 hours than dig. So lucky for me my husband will do what I ask him to! Thanks for the tips on the pond! It looks so pretty. You guys did such a nice job!

Leatha ~ That is so gorgeous!! Keep the pics coming...I can't get too many.

Dragonwillow ~ Impatients love the shade. Have you tried them? They are so pretty and seem to be hardy.

Mvpo8961 ~ You made my mouth drop!! How beautiful!! I am in love with that HUGE butterfly bush. That looks like the same variety I planted last year. It will be awhile b4 mine is that big.

DevilMayKare ~ I guess it will be trial and error with the clematis. Anyone else have any experience with clematis?

Wow! M that is gorgeous! Yeah, you spend some time in the yard. (lol)

The puppies look more like pappilions to me. Is that what they are?

Oh 3Loves, I think your pink tree might be an Eastern Redbud. Are the leaves round or heart-shaped?

So do you all have coi in your ponds? I opted for the cheap & just bought goldfish. They're getting pretty big tho!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
