well, a month post op, you are still healing and losing weight really shouldnt be an issue as is letting the insides heal. weight goes up and down all day long for various reasons. to gain weight you must eat more calories than you burn off. only you know that answer...i dont mean to sound mean but if at 1 month post op you are wishing the band was out, you most likely wont do well thinking that way

keep doing what you are doing (eating healthy in allotted amounts/drink alot) and focus on inches coming off whether than what the scale says.

Wow if I gave up after month 1 I would never be where I am today. I don't think my weight loss kicked in until like mid way through month 3. There is probably a good chance you have no fill or very little in that band. Honestly, you are not giving it a chance from the sounds of it.

A lot of people, myself included seem to have had that feeling "OK, I had surgery now the weight is going to fall off"....It is frustrating but it doesn't work that way. Sorry you are going through a tough spell but I recommend seeking out a support group or talk with your Doctor. Your expectations seem a little high at the moment.

don't give up! One month is nothing, you need to give your body time to heal. Your band isn't even functioning to its full potential. When I was losing slow in the beginning and would get mad, had to keep reminding myself how much more I would prob weigh had I not had the surgery. Give it time.

You're kidding, right? You're going to give up after a month???

Honestly, good luck with the removal. I hope you have better luck on your own because you obviously didn't take the band seriously at all.

Wow! I empathize with your frustration, but perhaps you should just wait until you calm down and think this through. Your reaction sounds a bit childish. You sound like Veruca in "Willy Wonka and The chocolate Factory". "I want it Daddy! I want it now!" Did you gain all your weight in a month? I doubt it. Sometimes it seems like weight gain came on really fast, but losing it takes even longer. It's not like the band goes in and wham - the weight falls off. Your body hasn't even had a chance to finish healing, so even though it may not feel like it, you probably still have some swelling. You also have to work with your body (and your mind) to kick it into weight loss mode.

Whether you like it or not, the human body comes equipped with a strong survival instinct and will automatically kick into gear, slow it's metabolism if threatened with what it perceives to be starvation and/or injury. Your job is to give your metabolism a kick in the pants to get it going, eat healthy but fewer calories than you burn so you lose fat instead of muscle after you heal. You're not even far enough along to start a proper exercise regimen. Right now your body has been injured (surgery), or so it thinks and you've changed what it was used to consuming. Be patient, this takes work!

I hope for your sake that your insurance and doctor do not give in and remove your band this early in the game. I don't think you have had it long enough to know whether or not this will work for you. Perhaps you need to find a support person or group and take a look around on this forum so you can see what it takes to make this work for you. You may be right that this is not for you, but since you've come this far, what have you got to lose (no pun intended) by sticking it out a little longer?

I am the same as you. I was banded on 2/1 and I have lost 10 pounds in total. I have been up an down the same 2 pounds for 2 weeks. I understand the frustration (hell, I feel it too) when you see people posting they lost 16 pounds in one week! BUT, I know I don't have a fill and I'm sure you don't either. You have to rely on will power and I have been eating about 1,500 cals and I haven't been exercising. I finally feel good enough to start moving and hopefully that will get the scale moving before I get my first fill. I know 1,500 cals is more than most people but I am hungry and have no restriction at all. I think you need to give it a chance and get a fill and work through it. That is what I am doing. Try not to get discouraged by other people's big losses - we are all different. These are the things I tell myself and maybe they can help you since we are in the same boat.

Ah yes. I recall my first meltdown! It was about 3.5 months after being banded and no weight loss for the last 3 months. I didn't want the band out but I remember being very disappointed and wondering WTF did I get this thing for.

So Betsy, don't be a Veruca, be a Charlie. Or, just be fat. Your choice.

BTW-Many, if not most of us, also experienced wild weight fluctuations the first few months until we became one with the band. Good luck with that insurance request.

WOW... You know the saying.... Walk a mile in my shoes???? I'm shocked by some of the ignorance in this "support" group so I will not address you further as you have clearly shown your lack of sympathy and empathy....

To the couple who sympathized and understand where frustration comes from, I thank you!!!!

I am a 37 yo mother of 5 one of whom we adopted 3 yrs ago. She is a most precious angel who by the grace of god has made it to see her 4th birthday when every Dr. Said she would NEVER see her first! She was born addicted to many drugs was in a drug induced coma for the first 8 months of life. She suffered a spinal cord injury in utero (from a failed abortion) which has caused her to be a quadraplegic and is the highest status one level in need of an intestinal transplant. We saw the love in her eyes and we adopted her. She has suffered NO brain injury (AMAZING) and she is so amazingly smart she uses a power wheelchair which she controls with her head and a computer that she controls with her eyes to talk and play games. She is trached and on a vent. I am her mother, her nurse and her advocate as well as being an advocate for special needs adoption. We fight along with her EVERY DAY while doing all of her IV's, blood draws daily needles and meds. So THIS IF YOU who felt the need to be cruel and mean to me on this site rather than compassionate and understanding, I pity you.

Yes I came across bitchy and but to KNOW ONE other than MYSELF.... I'm frustrated, im still in pain ( I had a Hiatel hernia so bad that they could not see my stomach at all cause it was inside my diaphragm and esophagus completely. My Dr. Has moved out of state and I now need to find a new one so FORGIVE ME for needing for the FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE some compassion and support....

If any of you kind ones who sympathize care to see my beautiful angel and see pics and videos of how aazing she is, you can go to her Facebook page called Saving Bella

Thank you! My dr last week said I should have lost at least 20 lbs by now... Ugh way to make me feel like a failure :(

While I am sure you have lots on your plate, we all do, posting about your daughter has nothing to do with your Lapband. I might be "cruel" but if you expect the weight to fall off because you take care of a disabled child you are dillusional, they have no relevance to each other. Part of a support group is offering advice, that is what everyone here did and you didn't like it.

I was banded 1/31 and its a struggle to eat well on the various stages and get to the gym 4 days a week with my own personal life challenges, family responsibilities etc... I didn't go and have my guts cut open an a strange object placed inside me and expect to be a size 2 tomorrow.

Sounds like you may need the help of a therapist to help you deal with your life stresses and how you deal with them and your weight.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

    • LeighaTR

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
