Frustrated!

Recommended Posts

So i had my fourth fill on tuesday. I now have 9cc in my 14 ccs band. Im soo frustrated because after the fill i stayed at my drs for 30 min drank 4 cups of Water and everything was fine. Went home and about 4 hrs after the fill tried some chicken broth. It went down with some pain! Ahhh! So the rest of the day i stayed on water only and that hurt too. Wed morning had about 2 spoons of yogurt and that went down ok. For lunch tried some Soup and that was ok. And than for dinner some Jello and got stuck and threw it all up. The reason I'm frustrated is because the same thing happened last month and i ended up getting an unfill. I just don't understand why I'm able to have the water at the dr and than i go home and have trouble. I don't know whether to go and get an unfill again (which i really don't want) or just stay on liquids over the weekend and see how i feel next week. My question is does this happen to anybody else? you're ok at the office but than have trouble at home? I just don't understand it and its making me so frustrated :-(

Ps: i was banded aug/2012 and have lost 39 pounds.

I reckon the stoma swells in the time after you leave the office. If you can't keep your saliva down, go back and get unfilled because you will get dehydrated fast. If you can hold down your saliva I would say go slow, stay on liquids, try keeping to warm liquids and see how you go after another 24 hours. Throwing up means you probably have aggravated the stoma even more and may cause even more swelling so take it VERY easy and move very slowly back through to solid food.< /p>

Thanks for answering! Im so glad somebody else is up at this time lol. I am able to keep my saliva down. And very slowly sip Water even though i do get some pain. Im thinking ill stay on broth and water only tomorrow and see how i feel. If i can keep that down ill just go through the weekend with liquids and start mushies next week. Thanks for the advice!

I'm in Australia so it's only 4.40pm here!

And also, try pineapple juice, just sipping. When I couldn't hold anything down, for some reason pineapple juice would stay down and seemed to help with the swelling. I don't know if it will work for you, but it works a treat for me.

Good luck.

Well that explains it. Im in miami and its 1 am here.

And i will definitely give the pineapple juice a try. Now do u just buy it from the store or do u actually make it fresh? If u buy it which brand do u buy cuz I've never bought pineapple juice before. Sorry if I'm asking too much :-/

hell you can't ask too many questions with these things. I buy store bought, preferably with no sugar added and I'll buy any brand that is pineapple juice and not a concentrate or a watered down mix.

I'm not sure how easy it will be to get but over here there is an Aussie brand that makes it and it's in every service station so I didn't bother stocking up, I just went out and bought some if I needed it.

Maybe just try a tiny fill .25 cc or remove .25 cc

Good luck

Yeah, sounds like some delayed swelling. If you can't swallow Water or saliva a very small unfill would be necessary. But if you can give it time, maybe the swelling will go down?

I agree with the others that your sweet spot may be a mere .25 cc's away from where you are now.

When you drink all that Water in the docs office are you sipping it or gulping it?

I wouldn't leave until I can easily gulp down a whole glass of water with zest!

I go for a fill tomorrow which will put me back to my original cc's that I was back at the end of Nov because I had an unfill for gallbladder surgery. With that said, I had actually gone in that week for a slight unfill because I was constantly getting stuck and throwing up so I hope I'm not making a mistake getting a fill tomorrow but I don't have much restriction and I'm getting hungry and also feel like I could eat more than a cup but don't. So I feel I need it. Good luck with your situation. I will have to keep in mind about the pineapple juice trick.

Juji, I too have been through the same thing with my last 3 fills and unfills. My doctor says my band and stomach are sensative. We have reverted to getting smaller fills. Stay positive. The band does work you have to work with it. I have been doing at least 1 Protein Shake a day and I am steadly loosing weight.

I just just got my 4th fill on Tuesday (last week) and I now have 9cc in my 14cc band. After every fill it takes me 2 weeks to be able to eat more normal. My stomach must be senstive. I am eating some mushies now. Drinking Protein. I can not drink real fast but everyday i feel a little better. Ihave alos dropped almost a pound a day. That makes me feel good!

I too got a fill today and I can sip Water. Sip broth but if I take a big drink it hurts. I don't want an unfill if I can help it. Guess I will see how the next few days go. I'm now at 7cc in a 10 cc band. I'm a little worried about eating food. But if I can't then unfill a little will have to happen. Had my surg in mid dec of 2012. Anyone have any suggestions for me???

I just saw this on another board. Maybe it explains why you threw the Jello up

"My discharge nurse told me to avoid jello at first. She said it can expand in the esophagus or stomach and not feel so good."

Maybe that is what happened to you?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
