Eating too much after unfill

Recommended Posts

I have had two unfills and I am eating twice as much as I did before the surgery. My doctor says my band may have slipped so she took out 6cc. is it possible that all of my Fluid is out? Why am I eating so much? I am due to take a swallow study tommorrow. Even though I am eating now and can hold fluids and food down I still feel nauseated Is it possible that I will need it put back into place? Has this happend to anyone else?

You're eating a lot because you're not restricting your portions. Most surgeons recommend no more than one cup of food per meal- and it's up to you to restrict your portions not the band. It's not the band's job to stop you from eating. It's job is to keep you satisfied on less food for longer periods of time. Fill or unfill, it will always be your job to control your portions because while some foods may be more difficult to eat there will always be foods you can eat too much of and easily.

Here's a link I think may help you: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Being as you're dealing with a possible slip, it's especially important you don't over eat and potentionally make the problem worse. Sometimes an unfill allows a slipped band to fall back into place and sticking to band sized portions is very important if that is to have a chance of working.

Best wishes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
