I am seriously struggling with my pre-op diet. Today makes day 4 of Clear Liquids and I am going exactly by doctors orders but GEEZ!!! Just wondering if I am the only one who is having a rough time with it? My surgery date is the 27th and I am so excited and I guess I just need to keep thinking there is a bright NEW light at the end of this tunnel. Anybody with some words of wisdom or a little pep talk cause I sure need one right now....

Steph, do you have to do CLEAR liquids until the 27th?

If you do, I would suggest mixing up HOT broths, FROZEN popsicles, COLD drinks, Jello and more jello... Varying the textures can make things palatable. You can do anything for two weeks! Two weeks and that will be it. Not a month, not a year, just two little weeks and then you will be onto a whole new way of life that is much easier than what you are going through now.go to bed early, early when you can and take it easy on yourself. You are doing a wonderful, loving thing for your body. You will do fine. Love and wishes to you!

I do. I have made tons of Jello and more jello. I can have 8oz of low fat yogurt and broth and I am trying to mix all of those up. Good thing is I have lost 6lbs Of my 4 days. Drinking a lot of Water and peeing myself to death LOL. Today was the first day that I woke up and my hands weren't swollen. Been trying to keep myself busy and not think about eating real food.< /p>

Its only a short amount of time out of your life that you will be going through this. Keep yourself busy during this liquid time and you will do fine.

Stay busy! When my family was eating dinner I would be @ the gym. They busier you are the less time you have to think about how hungry you are.

Thanks for the help. I need it lol. I just like to know that I can talk to somebody that is going through the same thing or already been through it and give me insight on what's to come.

You can do it. I thought the first week was easier than the second. I was on the liquids for 2 1/2 weeks as well and was happy to have lost 22 lbs. My surgery was 2 days ago and being on liquids is fine since I was prepared.

Girl I feel ur pain. I'm on day two of 4 Protein Drinks, unlimited Jello, and popsicles. And OMG. I was perfectly fine yesterday all day. No issues at all. Today I was fine until about 30 min ago when I started getting really hungry. I am sitting in my living right now smelling the delicious meal my hubby is cooking for tnhe family ..some sausage shrimp gumbo type dish and just wishing I could have some of the broth. Oh well, guess I'm gonna drink my last Protein Drink of the day and go to NY room and watch TV or a movie or something. It is hard. But I thank God for this website & knowing I'm not the only one going through this. Lets stay strong and keep our eye on the prize. We are SOOOO worth it and so is this hard time we are going through. Two of my favorite quotes "if it were easy everyone would do it" and "she believed she could, so she did" stay strong

I am amazed by how different our pre-op diets are. I've seen everything from strict liquid portioning to "my surgeon said not to worry about it". On one hand I'm glad to see we're all getting individualized care on the other hand it boggles the mind how different we all are.

For my pre-op, I have two shakes a day, 4 oz of Protein from fish, meat, poultry, cheese, etc., non-starchy veggies and Clear Liquids. While I'm glad that I'm not having any issues with hunger, I think the liquids only pre-op better prepares you for your post-op transition.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
