To fill or not to fill ?

Recommended Posts

I m seeing surgeon tomorrow per my request to talk abt getting slight fill. Last fill November I'm at 7cc. Im at goal. Just want to maintain at this point. So why do I want a fill? I can eat more than a cup sometimes cup and a half no more than that. I don't have to chew chew chew or put down fork. I chew like before sx when I'm not feeling restriction. I can go usually three to four hrs before I'm hungry. I guess I'm looking for the greenzone. I don't feel I'm there. It's more my head telling me stop than my band and its worked for me so far. I want that feeling of that I don't think of food and let my band tell me I'm full like I have after a fill.

Are you gaining weight? If it was me I would rather not get a fill, I like my band on the loose side and therefore I have to work the head a little more.

Only you can make that decision. Good luck tomorrow.

A good test whether you need a fill or not is to eat 4 oz of lean Protein (by volume) and 6 oz of vegetables (by volume) and no liquids for an hour after your meal, if you get hungry within 4 hrs, you need a fill. Hope this helps.

I am at the same place as you are...I am at my goal. and beyond....no reason to get another fill.....but yet at times I feel I can eat more than usual...when this happens I go on straight liquids for 2-3 days....some people call it the 5 day pouch test, which IMO is kind of silly, it's not a test and the regime is not needed....,....a few days of non solid food is all it takes....as you're eating Soup, shakes etc, you can feel the difference start to happen as the band tightens up again....

I do this at least once a month....gives the band - pouch a rest...dilated pouch returns to normal....all things get "reset" and feel I am right back where I need to be...and no need for a fill..

Before a fill, try giving the band a rest....just go all liquids for 2, maybe 3 days and see what happens....you may find what I and others have found to be the only true thing you need to do as "maintenance" ..

BTW, for those Newbies reading this, you have to have good restriction in the first place for this to do any good for you....I read all the time people who have been banded only a few weeks / month and want to do this, where in fact what they need is a fill to get to the Green Zone of restriction....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
