In a unique situation and worried

Recommended Posts

I am a bit nervous that my surgery will need to be rescheduled. I had my psych and nutrition consults last Tuesday, 2/5. And my surgery is scheduled on 3/5. I have my pre-op appointment with surgeon and hospital this Friday, 2/15. When I was at the office last week they told me that they would be submitting everything to insurance by the end of the week. I am going to call surgeon's office tomorrow to see where we stand with insurance submittal. I know they know what they are doing, but I am very nervous that all my appointments are scheduled and the insurance hasn't approved yet. Anyone have an experience like this? Did it turn out all right or did surgery have to be moved?

If you have met the criteria for your insurance company then you should be fine. I work for my health insurance company and once the paperwork was in it only took a couple of days to get it approved. Have you called them? Yes, your doctors office knows what they are doing when they send it in. You can definitely call the customer service center at your insurance company and ask them where you stand. Good luck!

I had all my appointments done before the final approval came through. The reason being, some of those appointments are necessary for approval, like the sleep study and psych evaluation.

Your doctor's office has likely done this hundreds of times before and knows what they're doing. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Best wishes.

I had all my appointments and tests done and my approval came just 4 days before my surgery day...I'm sure you will be just fine, like Missy said, it's old hat to your doctors office...Best Wishes! :)

Trust your doctor and his staff. Number one rule of lap band surgery. They have done this numerous times and they know what they are doing.

Thank you all for the kind words of encouragement. I definitely trust my surgeon and his staff. They are wonderful and couldn't ask for better to guide me through this journey. Its my insurance company that I am more worried about. I am banking and planning on 3/5 being the day. I would hate to see it changed at the last minute. Thank you all again. I am sure it will be fine!

I would call your insurance company and make sure everything is fine with your policy for covering weight loss surgery specifically lap band. In the 3 years I've been on the site I've read more than my fair share of stories of people planning on getting surgery and their insurance telling the last minute that they would not cover it. I'm not trying to be negative but you are the customer of the insurance company not the surgeon.

This part I have already done. I know my plan covers it with prior authorization. I have done all of the things I need to do before it is sent to insurance. Now is just waiting to see if they will approve. Thanks for looking out!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
