Help! Need Fast Objective Advice on Fills!

Recommended Posts

Long story short, I was informed less than 48 hours ago that my health insurance will terminate on February 15! I was banded on December 17, and no fill yet. My weight loss has been good, but Im thinking I should get a fill tomorrow so that way I have enough time to re-adjust if needed before the 15 th...what do you think?!?

Without insurance, my surgeon only charges $100 for fills - and the first 90 days of followups are automatically covered (I think it's called a "universal grace period"). Do you know if your doctor has anything like that in effect? Or how much a fill would be out of pocket? You might be worrying about nothing =)

I just got my initial paperwork and expense sheet last night so I can't offer more help than that!

This is kind of a tough one. The band works best when you have adjustments and it takes months to get to good restriction. You can get a fill then a few months later you will need another one and so on. You are only a few months out so you haven't experienced that yet. I would probably get the smallest fill you can and then check into where you can get some "cheap fills". Good luck.

Most insurances dont cover fills do you know for sure that yours does and also my doctor gave us six months free fills if we needed them. I would call the insurance company to see if in fact they will cover them. But if you are losing weight a fill is not going to make that much of a difference. You usually need 3 to 5 before you notice the difference.

It is also a decision you need to make with your doctor. No matter what we say it is up to him. Not everyone needs fills. I am also on self pay which went up to $200 from $100. i sure hope I do not need one anytime soon. Best of luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
