How much exercise is everyone getting?

Recommended Posts

I was banded 12/26 and I HATE exercising. HATE. Yes, it helps me lose a little, but I literally have to force myself to do it. Even then, I have to set a timer so I can count the minutes til it's over. I've lost weight before by nearly living at the gym, but that's not something I feel like I can reasonably sustain for any length of time. I get burned out, or just lose my motivation.

This time, I'm trying to exercise at a pace I think I can actually keep doing. It isn't much. I've been using my hand weights and walking 3-4 times a week for 30-40 minutes. Right now, I'm going to physical therapy for an unrelated issue and he has given me several other exercises.

My rationale is that if I lose weight mainly through exercise that I can't sustain, then I'm not doing myself any favors. My intent is to lose as much through diet as possible, wait for restriction and just try to stay active.

I was wondering if any other are having exercise issues?

right now (its all i can do) but i do it, i walk.

because of my (size at the beginning of my saga) and my knees, i cant walk far but i am not up to 2 blocks a day and i just walk.. my street that i walk on, goes up hill to my house. and boy can my mammoth thighs feel it..it too me alot to get to be able to even walk 1/2 block. i know each step gets me closer......to better health.

ps: since i cant (exercise like some) i am very aware of my caloric intake. 3500 cals is a pound ate or drank. so i am careful to not take in more cals then i can burn off.

Get some good music and good headphones and walk..........I don't think you need to be on a spin bike or in a powerlifting class to call it exercise, just start off by walking. I do go to the gym and I do walk and anytime I have good music on it goes by quickly - I am a clock watcher. Find a friend to walk with you......... Walking and talking makes it go by quickly too.

Good luck.

I have 4 young kids so finding time to exercise can be difficult. Sometimes I feel that I don't stop during the day chasing my kids, cleaning house, climbing the 3 levels in my house, etc. Sometimes I just chalk that up to 60 minutes of moderate exercise. Do this as a lifestyle change and not a weightloss program. Good luck.

My LB nurse share with the group tonight that was she did her laundry, and folded a shirt she would immediately put it away, then fold another shirt and put it away. Anything to keep her self moving. Try a pedometer, set yourself goals.

I was wondering if any other are having exercise issues?

I lost the first 100 lbs without one ounce of exercise. I started walking 30 minutes each day as I was losing the 2nd hundred... And I am very active. I do not watch much TV and after working all day I am usually doing laundry or something so I am up and down off the couch in the evenings. On the weekends I shop, do lawn work, chase my toddler granddaughter... I know I should do some formal exercise but honestly I think the key is to keep moving.

Buy a pedometer, or Fitbit. I try for 10,000 steps a day. It doesn't always happen, but it keeps me aware of how active, or NOT active, I actually am. I work at a school and found that I get over 5,000 steps just walking around at lunch and recess. I bought my daughter a fitbit for Christmas and she was getting less than 3,000 steps a day with 2 small children. It was a wake-up-call for her, and now she makes a conscious effort to move more. Fitbit tells how many calories you have burned and converts steps to miles. I am on my second one because my dog ate the first one! LOL

I walk 7 days a week with my dog but what really gets me sweating and is so much fun is when I do the Just Dance video games with my girls...I'm getting exercise but it doesn't feel like a chore because it's so much fun :)

I started at 304.8 lbs and could barely move. I bought a recumbant bike off of Craigslist (plenty of folks out there with brand new exercise equipment that they want to get rid of for real cheap). The first day, I could only do 3 minutes. I was miserable but I kept trying. My goal was to do 150 minutes per week. It took me 6 weeks to meet that goal. I have gradually bumped it up and now I do at least 180 minutes per week. I like my bike because I can do it in the comfort of my own home while watch TV or reading my Kindle. My favorite thing is to watch an episode of Criminal Minds while riding. I am so into the story line that I forget that I am exercising. When the weather is nice I walk and now I go to Zumba one night a week and do that for 55 minutes. I hated exercise too and although I don't love it now, I don't dread it. I just do it and feel proud of myself afterward. I also keep an exercise log posted on my refridgerator. I have met my exercise goals for 32 weeks in a row. I know that some can lose weight without exercise but this is what works for me. I wish you all the best.

God Bless

For the lady two weeks I have had company from out-of-state. I did not lose one single pound in those two weeks! Yesterday I walked mile and lost two pounds and today I walked again. Waiting to see what happens tomorrow. For me, no exercise= no loss!

I just started going to the gym. The first day I did only 15min treadmill and 15min on the bike. Yesterday I did 55min on the treadmill and today 65min. The more I go the easier it'll become. I don't just wanna lose weight I want to be healthy and fit. I struggle to find the motivation but when I weigh myself and see results it pushing me to go. Like people have said you don't have to go to the gym. Do something you enjoy, maybe a sport or swimming anything where u have fun. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
