Today I was only able to drink about 60 oz of water/powerade. I had no appetite whatsoever due to nausea. So I focused on staying hydrated.

Congrats! Stay hydrated = most important right now. One day at a time and you'll do great!

Thanks! I'm hoping things will all start coming together. Taking medications I'm finding is a chore and very time consuming.

My incisions aren't even covered and they used "glue" so they are freaking me out a little. They are a little sore but not too bad.

I had my surgery on Tuesday , they repaired a hiatal hernia also ....that I didn't know I had. I stayed over 1 night in the hospital due to the severe chest pains I had, which was normal because of the hernia.....now I just have gas pains and my shoulder pain is unbearable! One would think I had surgery on my shoulder.Does anyone know how long that gas pain last in the shoulder?????? I have been using a heating pad but it is still killing me. I have only had Clear liquids so far..today I can add my Protein shakes but I am not hungry at all.....

I was banded on Wednesday as well. Chest pain is the worst. When I woke up from the surgery I thought I was being suffocated.

It all depends on the person. Try taking gas x and walking in addition to your heating pad.

Can't stress the importance of walking. Use a pillow to support your belly. I'm day 5 postoperative, wasn't til lat night that I felt drastically better. Drink slow, hang in there.

I was just banded yesterday @ 8 and back home by noon. I slept for a few hours but woke up with gas pains. I use Gas-X strips that dissolve on the tongue, they really help! And I've found that when I get nauseous it's because I need to burp, so I walk around the backyard till I burp a few times and it makes me feel much better!!!

I have a question: How have you guys been sleeping? I tried laying in bed last night but couldn't get comfortable so I laid on the couch but that made my back hurt...and I don't have a recliner. Any advise?

I've been sleeping in my bed, I have a tempurpedic bed, and I sleep with a lot of pillows. I want to sleep on my belly so bad or my side but obviously can't. I'm so glad I have this bed, don't think I could have done it on my regular mattress.

I'm just ready to get past the gas pains and being nauseous.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
