starvation mode

Recommended Posts

So I talked to my nutritionist today n let her know that I have been eating about 1000-1200 calories a day and have been burning about 1400 per day which is more than I consume. My concern was would my body go into starving mode since I'm burning so many calories. She said as long as I don't go under eating 1000 I should b fine but that my doctor recommends consuming at least 1200 calories. She also said I should have a snack before n after workout to hold me through. Just thought I'd share this information with y'all since I had been very curious about this.

How are you burning 1400 a day? Are you wearing a body media or something to show calories really burned?

Is this cals burned "keeping" the lights on + exercise? If so that's pretty normal. I burn around 2200 a day. 1800 metabolism and at least 400 from exercise.

I do zumba for 2 hours at the YMCA. No I don't have a tracking device yet so I'm just going by YMCA s tracker according to my weight, height, n intensity. It actually says I burn 780 calories per 60 minutes but I say 700. 700x2=1400. I v e been a lazy a## for about a month since I've been off work but my work is a very active one so once I go back I'll b burning more calories... I won't be counting them tho.

I'm not sure what you mean by "keeping lights on + exsersize. N I'm supposedly burning 1400 calories in exsersize alone. Zumba is a Latin dance, lots of jumping around n constant movement. I come out of the class dripping in sweat. The key is to get a good instructor

By keeping the lights on I mean your basic metabolism: breathing, energy to run your organs. Your body is a marvel of engineering and machines need fuel.

I have - had a pretty big gas tank in reserve to burn......

Now I have to put gas in the tank to work out....

Our bodies store fat for those days when food sources are scarce...to survive....

Do y'all suggest I eat more calories? My goal is to eat 1200 a day but this week n next week my goal has been 1000 because I hadn't lost any weight for two weeks. After 1/2 a week I already lost a pound n a half. I just didn't know about the whole starvation mode our body would go in to n after speaking with my NUT she said I should b okay as long as I didn't go under 1000 calories.

Granted I'm no nutritionist, but 1000-1200 sounds about right to me. In fact that's the calorie range I try to stay in too.

The one thing I've found on this journey is there isn't a one-size-fits-all method to weight loss. Some find they lose great on 800 calories a day whereas others need 1400 a day. We're all unique and our metabolisms all have unique quirks and needs. The trick is finding what's best specifically for you.

I think you should do what your doctor tellls you track your food and then let him/her refer you to a nutritionist.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
