how much could you do after?

I think they want you to wait until you are off your pain meds to drive a car, that and to wait until your reaction time is back to normal. My husband was paranoid and wouldnt let my drive until I went back for my wound check.

don't push yourself.

Don't lift anything heavier than a jug of Jack Daniels for a week or so. Other than that, follow common sense rules mentioned by Dimps.

Hopefully you have some help from supportive family and friends - if not, try to conscript some. It helps.

I took the week off.....2-3 days later I started getting cabin fever....didn't put a full day in but went back to the office just to get out of the house...also ran some errands.

One week after surgery I had my post-op followup, after which I was released to go back to work full time and allowed to exercise....

BTW, ant Rn will tell you the most important thing to do after major surgery is to get up and do something....

I was doing the cooking for my family from day one, light housework also, drove after a week and was back to pretty much doing everything except heavy lifting by end of second week. Seems my household falls apart even if I'm out of action for a day!!

As long as you aren't still on pain meds you should be ok to drive.

I was told after my surgery, not to lift anything over 10 lbs for 2 weeks

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
