Does anyone get deep tissue massages?

Recommended Posts

I get weekly massages from an RMT (registered massage therapist) for existing back injuries. I am wondering if I will be able to get them after my band? It seems like lying on my stomach and having all that pressure on my back might cause pain from the port?

Does anyone here get massages? Do you find there is port pain?

I haven't had one since being banded, but I do get them regularly and I have a hard time imagining that there will be a problem. My port at least is simply not that sensitive.

Ha! I just came back from one! Banded on 12/21 and today was my first deep tissue post op. no problems whatsoever. I thought I would have an issue with my port and being on my stomach with the pressure. Zip zero nada. No problems or discomfort and believe me my therapist lays into me with some pretty serious pressure. However I did get clearance from my doc to do this. I don't think you should have any problems. :-)

Thanks guys! I have scheduled my first massage for about 3 weeks after my surgery, so I am hoping that is enough time for any pain related to laying on my stomach to dissipate. I will make sure to speak with my surgeon about it as well.

My doc told me to wait about a month after surgery. I did, and had no problem at all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
