Hi guys, I moved into the mushy stage early (as per the ok of my docs dietician, however I Confused about the portion size ill explain. The book my clinic gave me said 1 cup serving size per meal, but on there site is says 1/2 cup per meal. (I saw this yesterday).

I have been having 1 cup and have had no issues but I am concerned if I am over doing it I may be stretching my pouch. I have been having things like pureed spaghetti (a suggested recipe in my book) and Tomato Soup for lunch Protein shake for Breakfast.

Just wondering what others have been told :)

I was told no more than 1 cup of food per meal. That's what I've been doing for the last year since getting banded without any problems.

Thank you! It is all very confusing!! How quickly did u move to mushies after your op?

Have u had a lot of success?

I was on liquids for 4 weeks after surgery, so I didn't get mushy food until the 5th week.

Yes, I've had a lot of success actually. I've lost 181 pounds in the year since I was banded.

I was on liquids one week, mushies second week, soft on the third and moved to solids on the fourth. My doc said long term one cup per meal is what I should have. But I had to progress to that. First week 1/4 cup 5-6 times a day. Second week 1/2 cup 4-5 times per day, etc. they gave me a whole schedule. I was banded 12/21 and am at about 3/4 - 1 cup 3 times per day and that seems to be working for me. No fills yet. Every person and every doc is definitely different. Just follow your doc's orders and good luck!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
