Hey guys,

My surgery is just a little under 2 weeks aways and I am sooooooo nervous. I feel so committed now and I know it's really going to happen, but every time I think about it, I get this icky butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling. I come here to LBT for support and reading the posts seems to help, but did any one do any thing else to take their minds off of it? This is my first time for surgery, heck its my first time in a hospital period. (for myself that is) and I guess I'm just really nervous.... :paranoid What can I do to feel better??

Smile and just think how good you're gonna look and feel once you start your journey. I was so excited, I could hardly wait, AND, I was my doctor's first lapband patient. He had a very experienced doctor from Louisville, KY, assist, so, I felt like I had two doctors for the price of one, but then again when you're self pay, ya feel like you paid enough for two, LOL.

Congratulations, and you'll do just fine, I'm excited for you!

awe, I certainly remember those feelings! Just take it one day at a time. Itll be here before you know.

Hey - our starting stats are nearly the same! Im 5'5, and started at 248. Ill have to post a current picture of myself so you can see what 180ish will look like. (((At this point Im able to wear most size 12 pants depending on the brand. And since I have big bazoomba - my shirt size is a xl -or a 1x.)))

So, 185 and you should be in a 12/xl too. :biggrin1:

Good Morning Heather,

I know what you mean, my surgery is two days after yours. I just want the date to get here already. It is going so slow, and the fact that this liquid diet stuff is driving me insane and I just want to chew on a piece of real food is not helping one bit. I am just trying to stay busy with getting the house all cleaned up, working on some mini projects I have been putting off and, of course, staying busy at work as well. Next weekend, I plan to go shopping on Saturday and get all the stuff I need for post-op. I am going to be making a list from all the valuable suggestions here on LBT. Good luck, before you know it we will both be bandsters!

Thanks for the support guys, I guess its just cold feet I mean this isn't to be taken lightly.

Susan: we will have to keep each other updated on our progress since we are getting it done about the same time, and I start the liquid diet on Wednesday and I am NOT looking foward to it at all! But I think it will be well worth it in the end!

Paula: Big bazoombas eh? I thought they shrank when you lose weight? I think my hubby is afraid mine are going to shrink! It's nice to see some one with stats similar to mine. I think I have seen some photos of you in the before and after thread. A size 12 at 180lbs would rock!

HarleyNana: It was brave of you to go first! I will be my surgeons 11th patient and I don't believe there will be any one else there (at least he hasn't told me there will be) I just keep telling myself one step at a time and take a deep breath!

It's normal to be nervous! Several yrs ago, I had a breast reduction and it was my first surgery...I was wayyyy nervous too. Three years ago, I had to have emergency sugery on my ankle (I completely shattered it) and I wasn't nervous because I was so out of it!! I had a second surgery on my ankle a year later and because I had an epi instead of anasthetic, I wasn't as nervous. It isn't so much the surgery as the anesth. that worries me...that is what I'm nervous about for my upcoming lap-band placement (5 more sleeps!)...I'm just afraid I won't wake up. I'm gonna tell the anesthesiologist (sp?) that I'll come back and haunt him for life if he doesn't make sure I wake up!!! My husband told me that if I don't wake up, I will get a big 'finger waggin'...(I can always count on him for his humour).

all that to say, just relax...keep busy...read a lot of books and escape that way!

Good luck!!

Oh yes, dear K@t, I was a major basket case before my banding. I think if you aren't nervous, you aren't really human. (((((((k@t))))))))

hehe thanks  I just have the jitters about it I guess. I'm trying to keep my mind off it. I got a ton of candy today for Easter, I'm taking it all to work tomorrow to give to the other teachers so I don't eat it.

The doc did give me a prescription for a pill to take the night before to help calm my nerves, but I might take one or two in the days before. Just to help me chill a little. Take a nice bubble bath. Just me an my duckie.....

Hey, I'm in the exact same boat - boy do I know how you feel! I scheduled my surgery 6 weeks in advance and now all of a sudden, only 2 weeks left. EEEEK! I've got the butterflies too. I never doubted my decision to do this, but the closer it gets, the more scared I am that I am the one person in the universe the procedure will have no effect on.

I'm right there with ya Jean. I feel like that also, but it's good to know there are others around like me.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
