We will not die, really...

Recommended Posts

So there was a comment on LBT the other day that got me thinking... Sorry to say I dont remember who made the comment However a women was "happy with her hunger pains" because she had never felt them before.

Well this got me to thinking, I probably would not be in the situation that I am in now with having to have WLS If I had only let myself feel hunger pains. I mean ok when we start out with our pre-op diets or even after WLS and have to limit the amount of food we intake. We may feel that it is SO hard to ONLY have a half cup of this or a cup of that, BUT wait a minute !! We will not starve we will not die if we are not eating or grazing the whole day through. In fact all that eating is just what maybe the thing TO kill us.

So even though I do have the band I still will embrace being hungry at times, drinking my Water having my 1/2 cup of food 3Xaday, and waiting on the next time I Feel hungry to eat.

IMHO

Got me thinking.....I don't experience hunger, let alone hunger pains....small portions, Water and Protein keep me satisfied........and of course the band.

I know! Before surgery I told my husband that I was hungry all of the time (during the pre-op phase), but that was good because it meant I was doing something right and he thought I was crazy! Whenever I feel like I want to eat something I shouldn't, I just tell myself that it's okay to eat it, but it will just take longer to get where I want to be. That other food will always be around later if I really choose to eat it. I used to eat stuff as if it were my last chance to have it, which is crazy.

I used to be literally afraid to be hungry. I had an irrational fear that something bad would happen to me if I didn't eat. For the most part, I overcame this about 5 years ago (with some help from a therapist) and was able to lose almost 60 pounds on my own. Kept it off for 4 years, then gained it all back over the last year. I'm on Day 9 of my pre-op liquid diet now, and it's certainly reinforcing my revelation from 2007.

I had a boyfriend who used to say "hunger is just another feeling." I was like..HUH!? He never understood why it set me off more so than feelings of anger, sadness, happiness, etc. His theory was hunger is hunger. It won't kill you and there is no need to jump on it any more irrationally than any other feeling. Amazing how his outlook on life and food was different than mine. Then again, he was thin and I was not..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
