Hands and feet freezing

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, ever since I started the pre-op diet and now after the surgery my hands and feet are always cold...freezing! I've taken to wearing gloves at my desk and a hat when I can get away with it. Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks!

Dan

Low carb eating chills me to the bone.

As soon as I start any calorie restriction, my body starts to feel cold. Been that way for years, just throw on some extra layers.

Plan on being cold for a while. I am always wearing layers. I can wear long pants and sleeves in the NC summer! Part of the program!

I discovered a fondness for vests and/or light weight thermal gear from an outdoor store, as well as often times a light weight wool shirt 2 or 3 seasons....but that odd 'coolness' only lasted a few years.

Fortunately I have a warm air heater at my desk at work and at home my heating pad and I have become very close friends!

Come to think of it I have that problem also! Kinda weird in the summers of Yuma AZ at 120 degrees to wear long pants!

I am definitely colder in my new size.

On a side note - I love your profile pic Dan! LOL LOL

It's funny you should mention that because I have been getting colder a lot more recently. Especially in showers. I used to hate hot showers and now I crank it. I also used to sleep all but uncovered but last night I had to bundle up like an Eskimo.

I don't know if it's the diet so much as the changing body though. When I think about it, it makes sense because I have less insulation. It's like taking the blubber off a whale and expecting them them to be okay in the arctic.

Yep, mee too. In my case when my calorie intake drops the cold creeps in.

I was always hot. Now I can't get warm enough. I guess I am alone. I was going to ask my doctor tomorrow Thank you all for talking about it.

Have a happy valentine's day!

The caloric restrictions are a very good explanation.

I learned this in basic physics:

A calorie is the amount of energy needed to boil a certain amount of Water. (can't remember the exact measurement)

Cold is the absence of energy (heat)

Put the two together and it really makes sense!

LOL.... I finally got to use something from that class I took over 10 years ago!!

Even in Sunny California I have a tendency to be cold, I usually have a sweater at work and wear socks to bed at night. My wife on the other hands tends to be warmer.

Low carb eating chills me to the bone.

I have same issue and at home my house is 69 and my roommate is dying in the heat and I am wearing think socks and gloves and wrapped in a blanket. My MD and my surgeon say it is normal and will go away. I ask, "when?" but I get no answer.

OOPS should read "thick" socks not think socks. Fingers were cold, brain was too.l

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
