Does anyone do weight watchers? This site used to have a great weight watchers group but it fizzled out.

I joined WW on line today. My surgeon suggested it. If you want to become band buddies, I could use all the help I can get!

I gave up on WW when my group leader ballooned up to 326 pounds. I don't want to diet, I want to change my life.

I can't agree more. I know with my body I can not consume many carbs and I found out when I was trying to conceive what was best for me to consume and what to stay away from. I have successfully lost weight with WW, but whenever I tried it on my own it never worked. I felt like I was addicted to ww and I did not want to consume anything without checking points! I lost 30lbs last yr with WW and gained 40lbs after trying to ween from the program.

Current pre-op wt 344 down 324

Hate WW just another diet and more work. I am getting my Band in march (after Cancun) and been reading all about your band dreams and this is for me can't wait. I am going to call my band (my wittle friend) that I carry ever where i go. It will remind me that I am not alone. :)

I joined weight watchers today. I was doing a strict paleo diet and after completely failing to lose weight on it, and always feeling like I was missing out on foods that I wanted, I decided that it isn't a way to live. I need to get weight off, I need to do it safely, I need something sustainable, and I need a diet that won't leave me feeling deprived. I love that I can have a slice of pizza, or a bowl of icecream if I am mindfull. I also love that I can eat as much fruit as I want with no consequences! I am expecting success. Best wishes to you other WW gals.

I have to be honest I am scared for you if you are banded. You cannot over eat with the band like you are saying and be successfull. In fact can be dangerous. You can certainly go with the ww theme bu you cannot go by their portions sizes and all The free foods.

I am a proud member of weight watchers. I joined in June when I got "stuck" and couldn't get past a 24 pound loss. I have not publically said that I have been banded, but I love going...it is a great way to connect with other people who are trying to make good changes. I don't follow the program as the other people do...I mean really...I can only eat about 1/2 cup and use only about a 1/2 of the points...but I have found the life style changes are great and in the long run it doesn't really matter how you lose the weight....just as long as you lose it and make the necessary changes while losing it.

This also has given me a way to be accountable. I go to my "band" dr only once a month and find it kinda discouraging...WW has helped because I have to "follow" my plan daily, exercise and attend the meeting. I am also able to ask basic weight loss questions, get recipes and get the encouragment I need both when I lose and when I gain. Good luck to you. I love it and despite what others have said you can make the program work for you. My advice...don't say anything about your band...and enjoy being part of a community of losers. :)

I personally think people need to do whatever works for them.

People get way too hung up on the word "diet". But the bottom line is, we're all following some sort of diet whether we want to call it that or not. Here's the Webster's definition of the word diet:

a : food and drink regularly provided or consumed

b : habitual nourishment

c : the kind and amount of food prescribed for a person or animal for a special reason

d : a regimen of eating and drinking sparingly so as to reduce one's weight

Low carb, carb cycling, Atkins, Weight Watchers, Paleo, or even restricting calories. It doesn't matter what you call it at the end of the day it's a diet.

Do what works for you. We're all unique with unique needs. Some like low carb and do great on it. I personally despise it and think it's totally unrealistic long term- but that's my opinion. Some happen to like Weight Watchers, which really is just a way of counting calories easier. At the end of the day, if it's working for you, it doesn't matter if anyone else likes it or agrees.

WW is great, I learned so much about proper nutrition and Portion Control. Things that are helping me be successful now. I just needed more help than WW was able to offer.

I don't disagree with Mis. But this posts looks like they are looking forward to over eating which is why I said I was scared. I myself go to Jenny Craig every week to weigh in. It keeps me accountable and I have someone to talk to and set goals with. I do stay on the eating plan from my doctor because it works for me. I do also strongly agree as you continue your journey you realize more and more what works for you. Kind of like tweaking a lot. I always wish everyone lots of success and try to respect everyone's choices however I will speak out if I feel something is wrong and it in no way means I am always right.

My question is, and I need help understanding, I get my band in March, so I am learning, if you get banded and go by what your Doctor say's, why do you need to pay more money to join some find of diet program? For me diets got me in to this mess to start with. So can you help?

Hi Hely88,

I am not looking forward to overeating, but I am looking forward to being able to enjoy foods that I wasn't allowed to have on Paleo - primarily grains, dairy, and legumes. I also would feel guilty when I would eat fruit because of the carbs. And it would make me sad to eat certain foods without some cheese on top (homemade turkey chili, homemade burger, omelet). I think I will be happier on a diet in which I am allowed to eat whatever kind of food I want, but in my appropriate portion. Also, I am on Day 2 now (I know, not very far along) and find that I do have more points than I want to eat in a day. I remember when doing WW pre-band always feeling hungry. I am pleasantly surprised that my experience is more positive this time regarding hunger, which is I guess exactly what the band is supposed to do (although it is only the very beginning). Anyway, I really do thank you for your concern. I know it comes from a caring place in your heart. But, I think I'm making a good choice for myself by going on WW again.

Best,

Hilary

If I wasn't doing well with just the information I learned from my nutritionist, I'd definitely be on Weight Watchers too. Like you, I can't feel deprived and be successful. I love Pasta, bread, and potatoes and I refuse to live the rest of my life without them. Thankfully my nutritionist also agrees it's unrealistic to give them up so she actually encourages healthy carbs.

So far I'm doing very well as I am, however if that ever changes or I find myself struggling, I'll definitely be turning towards Weight Watchers.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
