Endocronologist evaluation?

Recommended Posts

Did anyone have to get an endocrinologist evaluation? My insurance requires it but my doctor is trying to get out of it since I don't have diabetes. If I have to go I'd like to know what to expect.

She asked me a ton of questions and then made m get a full blood panel. Most of the doctors overlapped in what they did. Such a waste of time and insurance money, if you ask me..

Ugh. I hope my insurance doesn't make me I. I wonder if I can brig a copy of my lab wok results instead of having to get bloodwork done again

Endocrinologist usually do blood tests and also check hormones. Sometimes they might test things that the bariatric clinic does not necessarily test...

It was part of my requirements to go. Annoying all the pre surgery appts but so worth it!

My surgeon required it. Endocrinology is the study of hormones. I'm glad my surgeon required me to see the endocrinologist because I truly felt that the "complete" blood work that my regular doctor had done wasn't showing the entire picture of my health.

So I found out that in addition to my high blood pressure (that I found out about 2 yrs ago), my thyroid levels needed to be evaluated further and I am borderline diabetic! Now diabetes runs on both sides of my family, so I'm not surprised by that diagnosis, but it's another reason I wanted to get my band--so I wouldn't become a diabetic. Also--my dad has thyroid issues--has for the last 20 yrs.

So even though I'm praying that many if not all of these issues will eventually leave me once I get banded and start my new life, I would have never totally known what I'm up against.

My visit wasn't anything hard--mainly lots of little vitals of my blood! and he did an ultrasound on my thyroid. But the endocrinologist looks for more in your blood than a regular doctor does.

Hope this helps. Blessings to you.

Thank you for your response! I'm happy it all worked out well for u. My insurance just approved me without this office visit.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
