Self Pay and Taxes

Has anyone gone through doing your taxes with being a self pay? I'm going to be using this as a deduction this year as it's definitely over the amount required for medical expenses and wanted to know any tips on what I can add to this to rack it up (legally) to help me pay off this loan faster with a refund? I'm going to use the mileage to my doctor because they are about 45 minutes away, but wanted to know if I'm missing anything you can suggest?

Also, if you had done this before, did you do pretty well and were able to pay a big portion of your loan? I know it all has to do with AGI and all that, but still would like to know.

I was self pay and deducted the full amount from my taxes that year because it's a legitimate deduction. I had other normal medical expenses as well and added them together. Of course when the calculations factor in its just a small deduction but every bit helps......I didn't push it with taking mileage though... Although I am sure a qualified accountant may tell you otherwise.
