How do you know u need a fill

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 10/10/12. I've had 1 small fill (also had some during surgery) i have list 52 pounds so far which im very happy with But i have to say i eat very little and often am hungry but i just dog it out. Kinda feel like im used to it. Afraid of being over filled but sometimes this is very hard. But PA said i don't have room for much more if a fill. Did barium X-ray last visit. What should i do?

My doctor states that I should be eating about as much as will fit into a tennis ball per meal and I should not get hungry for another 4-5 hours. It's not perfect science, but it's working for me. If you are getting hungry too quickly then I would def suggest you get a small fill. You could first try eating more Protein with each meal, that seems to keep me full longer. I drink a Protein Shake at about 7am, usually with half a banana or a Fiber one granola bar. I am just now starting to feel hunger and I'm 3 hours, 45 minutes out. I will eat lunch at noon and it usuallly lasts me until 4-430pm and I need to eat! Haha. That's how I judge if I need a fill. Good luck!

I am allowed the following portion at each meal:

3 oz Protein, 1/2 c veggie and 1/4 starch

For me i know I need a fill if:

  1. my portion of food at each meal does not hold me for 4-5 hours
  2. I find myself looking for food... or wanting to snack
  3. I am not satisfied with my portion of food and want more

Sounds like i definately should ask about a fill. All 3 if those things apply. Thanks I'll check that!

Just know that not everyone needs fills. Sometimes it is just, making sure you are eating the right foods. My nutritionist said that when I track my food I should also track how long it keeps me satisfied . She says this will help tell if I need a fill. Also make sure you are getting fluids in. I know they help me stay satisfied and sometimes I drink when I am hungry and am no longer hungry.

If your doc is like mine he will discuss it with you and also may ask what kind of foods you are eating... For example once I told him lunch was a taco salad and I was hungry after 3 hrs so I needed a fill. He said...what was on the salad... I said mostly lettuce, 1/8 c cheese, onion, salsa and 2 oz of ground beef. He said...you don't need a fill... You need to eat something other than lettuce to fill you up.... Because lettuce has no value except making you feel full.

I didn't get my fill but followed his directions and realized I didn't need one.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
