I have researched the Lap Band over the past several months and decided in December to set my consult appt. After lots of prayer & research I decided to have the surgery on Jan. 16th. I begin my 2 week liquid diet tomorrow. I am very excited and ready for the 16th to get here!! I would appreciated any tips for the following:

What got you through the liquid diet

How do you prepare food for your family after surgery

What was your biggest challenge the first 6 months after surgery

I am very excited to begin my journey with each of you!!!

Welcome...congratulations on being banded!!

To answer your questions...

What got me thru the liquid diet was that I was scared to death to do anything wrong which would prevent me from having a perfect surgery. My dr was very specific about all the reasons I needed to commit to the liquid diet...and I figured if I couldn't do it right I wasn't 100% committed to the journey. So I had a perfect pre op diet, a 22 lbs loss and a successful surgery.

I prepare food for my family the way I always did. I don't make 2 meals. Pre and post op obviously i couldnt eat what they ate but after that On the rare occasions that I couldn't eat what they did... I just modified my choices.

The biggest challenge ....hmmm I suppose just learning what I could and couldn't eat, how to manage when I all of a sudden woke up and realized I needed a fill and learning to track my portions and count every calorie. But honestly I didn't find it overly difficult. I was so focused and followed my plan to a T that it came easier than I expected.

Best wishes for your success!

I agree with Floridadays. I didn't have a preop diet but knowing I would fail early on kept me accountable.

I still cooked the same for my husband I just ate other things.

Learing to eat differently was my biggest challenge but it was not that difficult

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
