Has anyone else had problems with altered taste

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was banded on 12/12/12 and I've been having a very difficult time with altered taste to the point that I can't even stand the taste of Water. My appetite sucks because everything taste so bad now. I'm losing weight but this is very unhealthy not being able to eat or even drink water. I've tried everything to get the liquids in but I just can't stand the taste of anything right now.....will this go away soon? Any suggestions or advise will be gladly appreciated.

Thanks

Try some flavoring in your Water. 4 c makes no calorie flavors. My taste altered but not to the point that I couldnt eat. What about Jello, sugar free popsicles?

Hi, I experienced the same thing after being banded in May 2012, The taste of Water was even awful. I ate very little due to this. My main meals were applesauce and Protein Shakes. I invested in a PUR water pitcher so that I could get water. It's been 8 months and my taste hasn't come back completely, the taste of red meat is awful and before the surgery I loved a good steak. In time they will come back just be patient. Good luck to you. You will do great.

I did go through this and now it has actually working in my favor. Things I wouldn't touch before, I am eating (seafood, mushrooms, etc. that I would have never touched before). Definitely try mixing things up. I add mio flavoring to my Water and love it or peach flavored iced tea mix. :)

It will pass as you are still healing and your body is going through a lot right now.

Thank you all for your advice I actually can eat sugar free popsicles & they taste fine. I just wish I can find something really good to drink I'm usually so thirsty so I just eat ice. I will try some of these suggestions and see how they work out, Thank you all I really appreciate it.

on the mio sf flavoring, they come in a little bottle (at grocery store, Walmart, etc.) I really like the strawberry watermelon, tastes like fruit punch.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
