My doc told me no bathing, swimming, or jacuzzi for 6 weeks. Basically -- until after the incisions had completely healed.

Gadgetlady got the same instructions as me...

6 weeks - no soaking in a tub, no swimming. ;) It was hard, but I made it!

There are some great Water proof band aids that i used 1 week post op. I found them at Wal-Mart right along with the other band aids - sorry i don't remember the brand or name of them. They are completely and totally waterproof. I spend about 55 minutes at a time in the pool and when i took off the band aids it was completely dry underneath. Swimming is my main exercise so my doctor was OK with it. Also i did to a test before i went swimming - put a band aid on my arm and let it soak in water just to check.

I went swimming as soon as I felt up to it, about 2ish weeks post-op. I took it easy. The only exercise my surgeon really limited was ab workout.

6 weeks or until the scabs are gone. Short showers only until then. I was a little less than obedient. It enlarged one of my scars by dissolving one of my scabs, the scab fell off and deepened the wound. No biggie, just cosmetic. I am a long way from flashing my stomach to people who don't know about the band.

I went swimming two weeks post op. I was told as long as my incision was not draining i could swim. Wrong!! I got an infection in my port incision and was not able to get my fill when I needed to. They didn't want to take a chance at infecting my port. I took some major anti-biotics and had to go to the doc two extra times. Extra expense too.

Then I got some of those Water proof band-aids they are great.

I teach deep water areobics at the YMCA in my town and love the water.

It is so wonderful for anyone who has too much weight to do any kind of arebic excercise. Now I am healed and doing fine. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
