how does the lots of Water thing work??? It seems like since there is restriction that you would NOT want to drink lots cuz it would suppress whatever appetite you have or not be enough room for solids. I read the band is made to restrict solids not liquids but I find myself going long periods of time without drinking so I can eat.

I don't understand what you just said, but you should be drinking about 64 ozs of Fluid a day. Drinking water probably won't suppress your appetite as water passes right through and is absorbed into your body. The extra fluid should help flush out sodium and start your body to evacuating excess fluids you're body is retaining. You're still in the healing phase and should not be concerned with restriction and weight loss. I'm sure your doctor gave you instructions on how much fluid to consume?

yes I did get information and I read it but I'm just concerned about taking in to much Water and it filling to pouch so I cant eat. I have not experienced that but I guess its just from concern of having the device in there and learning its capabilites. I was just curious how everyone else feels when they drink alot of water, if it makes them full and they cant eat or if it just passes right thru and you still have an appetite.

121512, I recommend you watch all 4 of these videos. It will give you much insight into how the band is placed, how to eat and how this whole lapband magic works.

I was 7lbs heavier after surgery than I was the morning of surgery. It was all the air they put inside me and took several days to exit. Drink Water or flavored water. It flushes salts and fills you up. It won't fill your pouch because it goes through. Hang in there!!!

Did you receive any pre and post op education from your surgeon? Were you given any written instructions regarding diet requirements and/or what to anticipate with this type of WLS?

As others have said, just because you have had a band placed, you will not automatically loose weight. For successful weight loss you need to monitor your food choices to be low/minimal fat and carb, and it is absolutely essential for you to meet your daily Protein goal. You also need to begin a commitment to exercise regularly...this is really not a diet, but a life style change.

That said, sufficient Water is essential to remain properly hydrated (severe dehydration is something which can sneak up on you and land you in the ER), AND flush the fat metabolites from your body. Water also wards off constipation...just a few of the reasons drinking water is so important. Water also does not stay in your pouch, but you do need to be careful to acquire the habit of sipping your water and not chugging it.

This forum has a wealth of information to help you make this most important adjustment to life post op. Remember, this is a journey, not an event.

Best wishes...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
